Allergy Meds?

Featured Replies

How hard is it to find allergy medicine in Thailand? Particularly Patong Beach, Phuket?

I'm looking for Sudafed (Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride) for anti-congestion and a non-drowsy anti-histamine like Zyrtec (Cetirizine hydrochloride).

I did a search on the board, and it wasn't clear to me the availability of both pills. I believe Sudafed is sold under the name of Maxiphed in Thailand. Can this be picked up over the counter? Or does this require I buy it from a licensed pharmacist or do I have to get a prescription from a hospital doctor?

What about Zyrtec?

I bought 10 Zyrtec 10mg from Tesco Lotus Bangkok this week at 120 baht. Swiss made but packaged in Thailand.

Zyrtec, both syrup as tablets are for sale on about every street corner. Also under the Thai brand names such as Cettec, Zyrex, Zyrcon, Cetrizine, ... (I think about 20 different names, some cheaper, some more expensive) some of them already for about 1thb/tab

Pseudoephedrine HCl is for sale on about every street corner. Just mention the name 'Pseudoephedrine' and you'll get one of the (3?) brands, also surely cheaper as the one you're having now.

OTC, generally only for injections and 'psychotropic' medicines you'll need to see a doctor.
