Local Movers

I will be moving from Bangkok to Khon Kaen and even though I will not be moving any real furniture I have more than will fit in a covered pickup truck. The only moving company I found was JVK and they want 18,000 baht. Anyone have any ideas? I will also need some packing supplies, like sturdy boxes (U-Haul type) and some wardrobe boxes although those may not be available here.

someone recommended Transpo to me but no idea of their prices

Crown relocations are very good but pricey. JVK you mentioned are good and probably better vfm than Crown for domestic moves around Thailand. Transpo also good - the one with the Tiger logo. All these 3 include the boxes, and have the hanger type/portable wardrobe type if you want them, as well as packing etc which is the best part IMO so you don't need to do.

There's always the option of just hiring a pick up van on a nearby street, plus 3-4 few guys all in. I've done that in the past within BKK for about THB 2,000-3,000. Most streets seem to have them. Never done for BKK-KK, but should be able to find someone happy to do. Any Thai friend/partner will be able to help you find these. Estimating: 4 people at say THB 500 each, pick up at THB 1,500 for a day, plus gas on top, you'd probably still be under THB 8,000. It's a reasonable way of doing things if you don't have items of high value that are easily breakable. Then you just need to source boxes, eg the plastic sort from Tesco at THB 200 each are useful for storeage after. Or just find somewhere that sells cardboxes if you don't want to keep them... :o I wouldn't worry too much about the portable wardrobes/ clothes etc. Just pay someone THB 300 for a day's ironing on the other side... :D

I have seen the pickup vans around town but I think they will be too small for my stuff. I don't really need anyone to pack my things. I am not that lazy ;-)

I filled out a complete form for Transpo listing everything. They sent me an automatic response saying someone would contact me in the next 24 hours.

That was more than a week ago...
