I am looking for a rattan sofa set in the area between Surin and Buriram. (or not so far as the north)

I've found one shop in Surin that sells it for 37.000 THB !!!! (near Thong Tarin, Bkk rattan ...)

Too expensive !!!!

In Chiang Mai the price is more or less 20.000/ 25.000 THB

Anybody can help me ? Or I take my way to the north ?

In attachment the set of my friend in Chiang Rai (paid 25.000 THB) Thanks in advance

A couple of months ago rattan furniture was on sale in the OTOP outdoor market set-up in the Big C carpark (Surin). My wife talked to the stall owner and was informed that the furniture was made in Korat. I cannot remember the price but thought good value if you wanted that kind of thing. Certainly less than the 37,000 Baht quoted by yourself. The OTOP market is in Big C carpark again right now - don't know if the rattan furniture is available as the displays change from month to month.

A friend of mine bought a LOT of rattan from a factory in Tha Li. He told me the prices were very good. Tha Li is about 40 kilometers northwest of Muang Loei.

They are setting up NOW in the usual location by Chevy dealers, Surin. Maybe, just maybe the same people as mentioned above may be there?

Just a thought!

I was in Chiangmai last week and visited a place specialized in Rattan Furniture, called New Fountain Chiangmai Ltd Part. I will send you the email by pm.

I do remember a furniture place in Phimai and have the business card somewhere. I will try to find it and do the same.

The place is phimai is called "LaMOM". I don't think they have a website and I am not sure if they do sofas... I saw some furniture of them a year ago, at a OTOP exhibition.

Their phone number is 044 200 182 or 08 1955 7984.

They asked me first 38000 THB (!!!!) and then 32000 THB.

Not friendly, not polite, very money-hungry !!!

There is a rattan furniture factory in Mahasasarkham province (adjacent to your province). They export to 4-5 star hotels in the American southeast, so the quality is right up there. I visited this factory 4-5 years ago, so lost contact information. But might be worth researching.

I bought a rattan sofa set in Surin about four years back. I'ts okay but not particularly recommended. On a verandah upstairs, the varnish failed almost immediately and I've had to redo it as it's looking very drab.

I also remember that the nice lady who came over and delivered it to our house had a strange way of angling for more business. They'd obviously been eating in the cab on their way to us and on getting back in to go she wound down the window and threw the wrappings and cans out into our garden.

Charming, a pretense to being middle-class and proper and really working to sell us more stuff but clearly on another planet.

I have been trying to contact the Thai Visa sponser " beautiful world Thailand ".

Lovely website, shame about the fact the contact email is missing an " f " in beautiful, and when you do put an " f " in it ( which I am guessing is the right one ) they don't bother their a$$ to reply.

Would like an " L " shape outdoor rattan sofa, single chair and low level coffe table.

I live in Phuket, but can purchase from anywhere in Thailand, if any one can recomend somewhere would be much apreciated.

Many thanks

The group produces rattan furniture and items of high quality, as well as beautifully woven clothes. Visitors are welcome to see the production process and purchase souvenirs. To get there, take the Loei-Tha Li road for 47 kilometers. Upon reaching the District, turn right to Ban Ahi and proceed for 9 kilometers. Then turn right again and proceed for another 5 kilometers towards Ban Na Kraseng.

If that is the place near the border crossing ith Lao, I have been there and agree it is good quality - we almost bought some last year. Re Rattan furniture, and skills for making it: Closer to where it grows you'll probably find more and better craftspeople. I don't know if there is enough jungle left in Isan for great rattan crops.

Apparently all the rattan comes from Laos and the furniture is made in Thailand. I have never been there but my friend bought a number of pieces of furniture from them.

There is a shop in Korat next to the Sima Thai hotel which has rattan furniture. I believe I saw a sofa and two matching chairs and a low table for 27K baht. The quality was very nice, but more than I need. I'm trying to get them to sell just a sofa, but they don't want to break the set...
