You are looking at this in the wrong way...

They are not late but about 12 months early..See? problem solved !

That's the reason why there are no Olympics, it would throw next years schedule into complete disarray.

some possible reasons might be that:

the postman is a farmer, and only work with mail delivery in between............

the postman have too manu routes, and just pick one at random..........

the postman have a time schedule, but (as some other transports) does'nt leave before his bag is full

I think you have it with that one Berg..... when I lived in the village the mail delivery was infrequent as the guy wouldn't set out unless he had a few items to deliver, and as none of the locals were entered in a Readers Digest lucky draw there wasn't a lot of mail flying around.
