Begging To Be Reserved "occupation"

Featured Replies

According to today's Post, a proposed bill will require those wanting to beg for a living in Thailand to prove they are destitute and have no family to care for them. They will also have to register with local authorities and obtain work permits. Those who force others to beg for them or otherwise exploit beggers will also be subject to sanctions. One official is quoted as saying the new law will also help control the population of foreign beggers in the country. The new law would replace the existing Begging Control Act of 1941 (who knew there was such a thing).

If it can remove some of the scarier farang beggers, why not............

I can't wait for the reaction of the "Thailand hates farangs" mob. They'll be claiming bias if farangs can't come and beg here. :o

A WP for begging? what would be the requirements, minimum monthly income, 4 thai beggars for every farang beggar, minimum capitalisation????

This seems to be a move to better control the Cambodian and Burmese beggars around Bangkok, and the gangsters that exploit them, rather than something against the farang beggars.

Most of the beggars in Bangkok are Cambodian. I don't see how they're going to be able to prove anything.

Probably easier to arrest and eject from the country under WP laws than begging laws.

It's just another term for financial services people :o
