Can Anyone Recommend An Optician In Bangkok?

Featured Replies

I appreciate that in every Mall and major Soi there are a throng of opticians.

However, from observing the experience of my wife she has been forced to try many different opticians over the years as non have provided 100% correct lens first, second or third time around after testing her eyes!

I have my doubts regarding the true professional ability of the testing staff mainly, as opticians seem to spring up overnight faster than 7-11's at an new intersection!

If anyone knows of a really good optician who will make the correct diagnosis and deliver the right lenses without a big performance (and inconvenience of our returning for adjustments 4-5 times before they get it right) it would be very much appreciated.

Dont yet know about known excellent opto in BKK but it is worth considering the following.

The price of contact lenses has dramatically reduced over the last 20 years because of industrial scale production.

Strengths of lense are produced as a bank for fast filling of prescriptions to meet our seemingly incessant requirement for "fast" service.

Many people (me included) do not have a standard curvature to their eye. This means that the opto who will usually order the first lenses from prescription strength will then find that because the lense does not sit flush to the eye, the sight is affected and he must try again.

Essentially it is trial and error for people with this problem.

I am not aware of systems available at normal opto rates that take curvature as well as prescription into account.

If you know please tell me so I can save some time on my replacements.

Just today I had a good experience with SIAM EYE CLINIC which is in Siam Square. My previous crummy optician had done a very bad job fitting new lenses into my frame. I was prepared to just get totally new lenses made, but the man took it in back with the heat-it-up equipment and spent a ton of time working on it, came out and gave me my perfectly fit, tightened-frame lenses back, polished and perfect, for free. Would not take money. (I know this is sometimes somewhat standard but hey -- he spent a ton of time and did it.)

Furthermore, it was clear that they had plenty of equipment around, they seemed professional and somewhat "medical." fairly large number of frames around to check.

You go to Siam Square. You go to where "Soi 1" hits the big street that has Paragon and all that on there. You walk back on Soi 1 into Siam Square area, and then it will get super narrow at one point. when you have jiggered back there, look to the right and you should see Siam Eye Clinic.

Basically, i feel like he did me a good, professional turn today so I wanted to return the favor by recommending.
