King Power(downtown Bangkok)

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

Here's the link to the "King Power" complex in Downtown Bangkok!! http://www.kingpower.com/complex/complex.html

Was wondering if anyone has been to this complex. In particular, regarding the "purchase/selection" of Single Malt Whiskey??

Wondering if the Suwannapoom selection is also available here?....and if so,are there surely not some restrictions on the

amount you can buy.I have no idea, maybe you can buy and then only collect on your exit from the country at the Suwannapoom

Branch??...........I only ask this because the idea/possibility of buying whiskey at Duty Free prices in Downtown Bangkok seems a

bit too good to be true :D ....or maybe they have the same selection BUT at Non-Duty free prices :o (which would be acceptable)

I really appreciate if anyone has any experience with the King Power(Downtown Bangkok) Complex.......because there are brands of

Whiskey that are,it seems, simply not available on the regular Market, but only at Suwannapoom..namely.....

ARDBEG/HIGHLAND PARK/CAOL ILA/TALISKER.....other Malts like Johnnie Walker/Chivas Regal/Macallan/Glenfiddich etc.. etc.. can

be bought where I live very easily(Pattaya)....but not, unfortunately the above highlighted ones...hence my ponderings on whether

King Power(Bangkok) could solve the hunt for high-end Malts.

:D:D .....Thanks a lot for any tips/info. any of you Bangkokians may have.....

I believe all of your questions were answered in this thread a month or so ago.

Thanks for the link. That's a bit disappointing,I have to say.I would gladly have paid a higher price than the same Whiskey at

Suwannapoom...because it's not(for me) necessarily about the price, but more about the difficulty of getting "Islay" whiskies

here in Thailand :D:D .....Aw well, who knows,I might ring them anyway, and ask them(nudge,nudge..wink,wink!!)...if they could

let me buy the whiskies and take them out of the Complex with me if I pay an "extra fee"....pointless,I'd say,but you never know :o

Oh, I know it's definitely pointless. Tried it already w/ Thai friend helping. No go.

There's a decent liquor store by Emporium in BKK. Take a left from Emporium (facing North), walking on the same side. It's a small store on the left, about 5 min walk. They have a limited range of Whiskies, but it's there you'll find one of the few Islay's in town, Laphroaig (1,600 baht). Paragon also has a range so I started buying there instead of further in at Emporium. But, the last two times I made the trip they were out of Laphroaig (and when I asked when a new order would arrive... well...). Note: if you are game, they always have a 10,000 baht bottle...

KingPower... what were they thinking...
