It's up to Bangkokians whether to vote for me : Chuwit

BANGKOK: -- Quick-tempered Bangkok Governor candidate Chuwit Kamolvisit on Friday cancelled his campaigning programmes in the morning and went to a temple to do merit making.

At the temple, he freed release a total of 633 animals including birds, eels and shells in a merit making.

On Thursday, Chuwit punched, kicked and stomped newscaster Wisarn Dilokwanit of Channel 3, leaving Wisarn bruised on the floor after a heated televised interview.

Asked whether his attack on Wisarn will affect his votes, Chuwit said the Bangkokians will have a final say on whether they will vote for him this Sunday.

"Now the decision is with the Bankokian voters whether they will vote for me or not. I admitted that what I had done to Wisarn was not the right thing and no one should imitate me," he told reporters.

The outspoken politician attacked newscaster Visal after being interviewed on a midday news programme about his campaign and policy platform ahead of Sunday's election.

Witnesses said that both men looked upset as they were leaving the studio. Visal turned back to tell Chuwit that posing difficult questions was merely part of his job and that he did not intend to offend him.

It was then, said witnesses, that Chuwit lost his temper, punching Visal in the face, elbowing him in the back of the head and stomping on his leg after he had fallen to the floor.

Wisarn already filed complaint with police over the attack.
