Visa extension in bkk

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm going to apply for a one-year extension on my Non-Imm 'O.' I'm taking a letter/form from Thai Farmer's showing my current balance, my passport, a smile and a humble attitude. U.S.A. passport by the way.

Short of slipping a few thousand inside my passsport (Did I leave that in there? I'm sorry), is there anything else I need?

Thanks

David

A valid reason would be nice. :o

If retirement you will need medical at the least and probably notarized income statement from embassy.  Along with the bank letter/book and copies.

If marriage (support) your wife/child, her id card/home register or (lease if you living in apartment probably required) and photos together along with bank letter/book and copies of everything.  You will probably also have to list amount and source of your income.

Also a photo within the last six months.

Hey Lop,

Thanks. I went ahead and went over and got the skinny; my asset statement, copy of the Little Gipper's birth certificate, Khun Mommy, myself and a serious looking supervisor asking, 'Have you got a good reason for staying?'  :o

I'll pack the other stuff along too though, just in case. Guess taking my passport along would be good.

Did find out one bit of extra information that might be helpful to others. They said you had to wait until you were inside the 30 days to expiration zone before applying for the extension. They seemed pretty serious about it, but it could of been who I spoke with too.

Yes; they do want to see less than 30 days remaining on your current 90 day stay.  And remember that the entry time of this stay will be your renewal time each year so if it is also your travel time it could be a problem as they normally require you to come back in 40-45 days to get the full extension (you get an exact day to appear).  So for some it might be worth another 90 day entry before doing an extension if it takes them out of a normal travel period.  Just to add a little more confusion to the issue. :o

Hey Lop,

Thanks for the information. Since I actually have no idea of travel times other than Christmas, then I guess now is as good as any, so I'll see if I can get it done. And man, am I ever just getting in under the wire, as far as price hikes go anyway.

I'm going back over next Monday with fistful of paper and a smile for the nice lady (er, ladies, since I'll probably stop for a stamp at five different desks). Having my charming young son along couldn't hurt I am sure.

You fill out form at desk on left side of main lobby and pay but then go to rear room 201 to present your case at the non business desk.  Today they were using a number card system that you picked up from one of the desks.  Have never seen as many people at immigration; outside of peak tourist season.  Guess everyone was trying to get extensions in before the price increase.
