Superstars paid $1m each for thrashing England

The Stanford Superstars won themselves $US1 million ($A1.49 million) dollars each after hammering England by 10 wickets to win the Twenty20 clash.

Victory for the Superstars, a team made up of West Indian players, was all but assured after they bowled England out for a meagre score of 99.

Set 100 to win, the Superstars cruised to victory with more than seven overs to spare.

Superstars captain Chris Gayle, a West Indies Test batsman, was 65 not out, with five sixes and five fours, and Andre Fletcher 32 not out.

As well as $US11 million dollars being split evenly between the playing members of the winning team, a further million will be shared between the 12th man and other non-playing squad members, with an additional million split among the victorious management staff.

The remaining prizemoney in the $US20 million pot will be shared between the the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

This match brought the curtain down on the inaugural Stanford Super Series, the brainchild of Antigua-based American business tycoon Allen Stanford, at whose ground all the fixtures were played.

Grown men in pyjamas, nothing to get upset about. :o It's not cricket.

I'd be upset if I was playing for a million bucks each, winner take all, in a game lasting about 3 hours and everyone in my side played like crap.

I think England thought they only had to turn up to beat the WI combination, and they had already decided how they were going to spend the money! :o

I think the event was exposed for what it is a rchman having a few guests round to watch a slogfest and using it to promote his own image. I don't think the English players took it seriously as it isn't so big in the great scheme of things. However it's good to see a few underpaid WI cricketers getting a decent wedge for a change.
