i know a wp will get u in for the same price as a Thai. But what about those without wp? Sure, we are not paying taxes here fair enough. But, in my case, i had to sell up big time to support my wife and baby here . Everyday i inject just as much cash into the economy as a expat taxpayer :o

Does double pricing encourage tourism ?I think not.

My home state of Tasmania in Australia has some of the best national parks(world heritage) in the world. I would be appalled if we charged Japanese or American tourists more money to enter just because thier country in percieved as richer.

I'm sorry. Those who get the Thai price by flashing their work permit or whatever, you're missing the point. There should be the same price for EVERYONE. Probably like the country you came from, REMEMBER!!! Why not???

that's a pleasant enough idealism. let's be constructive here.....how can you achieve yor goal ?? make a submission to the human rights commission ??

Bleating about it doesn't solve anything. Becoming worked-up about it doesn't solve anything and is detrimental to your health.

If you don't want to pay the price then don't go. Simple.

for those on non imm "o" visas for marriage or retirement etc.. i guess it is a little bit of a crap situation. you could try using a thai driver's license, or apply for PR.

for "visa runners", in the eyes of the immigration system you are tourists.

I just show them my Enfield town Library card and if pushed rabbit on about research institute educational field investigations....or "sum-fink"

The most important thing is to project a quiet and respectfull approach

and be polite to whoevers on the gate /in the wee hut etc.

As in every country in the world you might visit the most important phrase in life to learn is "How Much?"...always simply "How much"

Combien-Quenta Costa -Porn mann-Vas Costa das- and of course in Thai ...Kor tort Krup -Tor Ri KRUP and learn to identify the reply....roi ha sip, song roi sam sip bt ha sip satang etc (they will always appear to reply quickly -so listen)

We have all heard the typ. tourist ....

Hey? whit was that the guy said...sing song ting a ling or something?...

excuse me sir could we have it in English...dont understandy the Thai lingo like--does anybody hear speak English?.getting desperate.......smiles all around...--ye Gods

Might seem like crawling but what the truck just carry a spare set of knee pads and pay "loco" price

Might get me self a visa one day :o

Songkhla Zoo is excellent and no double-pricing (30 baht). You'll need a motorbike to see it all. It's about 5kms south of the city along the Old Yala Road and set in the hills with marvellous views over the city and lake. The cats and the monkeys (gibbons) are great.

Personally, I think the likes of NPs should be priced according to what they have to offer.

Some parks you can spend a whole day there and not see everything, like Khao Yai or Khao Sam Yoi in Prachuap Kiri Khan. Whereas nearby Kuiburi NP only has a viewpoint and a small lake. I refused paying 200baht to enter here as the day before I'd seen a nice view overlooking Pranburi reservoir and the distant Burmese mountains for free. The guy at the Kuiburi toll booth pointed out to me a dirt trial that led to the small lake that I could see for free. I saw it. It was nothing more than a stagnant pond.

A waterfall attraction in Nakon Nayok I was asked to pay 200baht until the toll collecter heard me speaking Thai to my gf. I got in for 20b and still felt I was robbed. A trickle of a waterfall(it was shortly after the rainy season), a table and a couple of chairs had been thrown into the pool below the WF and had been there for some time. Rubbish was strewn everywhere. And yet another WF nearby was much better and only 10baht to enter.

If I can get in for Thai prices by showing my bike license then fine. If they insist on 200baht then I have to question just how badly I want to see what they have in the way of attractions and amenities. Usually, I walk away.

Why pay 200b when my gf pays 20b and sees exactly what I see and uses the same amenities?

The only time I accept a price differential is when a Thai can go in for free and a tourist has to pay a entrance fee. Like in some museums.

Otherwise I simply walk away.

Must admit I haven't seen much! :o

SK 1972,

FYI the Zoo in BKK has been undergoing renovations which were put on hold by the chicken flu outbreak. Once the full renovations are complete then things should be looking up for the animals there.

Now the challenge is to stop the locals feeding all kinds of <deleted> to the animals...........

Is this the same sort of "Prejudicial pricing" people are talking about here? Oh Allah! It is complicated. Can't believe that I have to pay double for the same service just because I am a few years older than the guy in front of me! AGE DISCRIMINATION! Absolutely ridiculous! Which country is it?

In most cases it's actually not the foreigner paying more, it's the Thai getting in for a lower price.

Thailand is a big tourist destination and a lot of the venues are there only because of the foreign tourists. With out being able to charge whatever they charge the tourists (foreigners) these venues would not be here in the first place.

The locals get in for a lower price, without this lower price most of them would not get in at all. At least some revenue is generated from the local population and that actually brings down the price the visitor will have to pay.

This is normal practice in most big tourist locations. The difference is that in Thailand they are honest about it and put it on the price list. Just check around in other tourist places like Florida and you will find that the same deals exist for the locals there but it's not out in the open.

As for government run places, Thais have paid taxes for the building and upkeep of these so they should get a discount. These kind of discounts are also available in most western countries where locals can get access to place like local museums cheeper by discount cards.

In the end its up the individual if they want to pay the price. To not visit a place you really would like to visit just because they let locals in for a lower price is your own loss.
