Can you catch diseases from toilet seats?
You did primary, secondary school, other schools. You never wondered. You were in a family of 5 (guess), you never wondered. You were in hotels, wondered somehow. Ever used a blacklight in that room? maybe you are really surprised then. You could see all kinds of unwanted spurs of whatever fluids. You go to a restaurant, are the workers really hygienic? DO they wash there hands? Are there workers spitting in your food by maybe sneezing? You go to supermarket and open cooling doors fi to get milk. Many others did before you, they have clean hands? They said corona could survive some time on smooth, most metal surfaces. SO others probably as well. What about all kinds of public transportation? If thats not enough, fi you have the roover beetle. If you only touch the animal, you get bad skin infection. Tiny animal of 4 mm. Or a 4 mm jelly box, while you are swimming, it can kill you. You will have to fight for your life. Yes, life is a challenge, you never know. -

Transport Vietnam Airlines Expands Capacity for Holiday Surge
Photo courtesy of VN Express Vietnam Airlines is gearing up for the upcoming National Day travel period by substantially increasing its seat availability. The airline plans to add over 100,000 seats, bringing the total to an impressive 600,000 across nearly 2,900 flights between 29 August and 3 September. This substantial increase marks a significant rise from last year's capacity during the same period. Domestically, Vietnam Airlines is enhancing frequency on key routes linking Hanoi with major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Da Lat, and Hue. This boost results in nearly 418,000 seats on over 2,100 flights, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent. The airline is also expanding its international capacity, focusing on connections between Vietnam and countries like India, China, Thailand, and Australia. With nearly 177,000 seats available on more than 760 international flights, there's an 18 percent rise compared to last year. In a bid to attract more passengers, Vietnam Airlines is offering e-vouchers for those booking tickets on 19 August, 1 September, and 2 September. Travellers purchasing Premium Economy tickets will receive a voucher worth 11.04 USD, while those buying Flexible Economy tickets will receive 198,000 VND (approximately 265 Thai Baht). These e-vouchers can be redeemed for tickets issued between 19 August and 30 November, with travel valid from 19 August 2025 to 28 February 2026, covering all domestic routes. The increased capacity reflects the airline's confidence in a resurgence of both domestic and international travel as the post-pandemic recovery continues. This move is expected to cater to the anticipated demand surge during the National Day festivities, providing passengers with more options and flexibility. By strategically enhancing its flight offerings, Vietnam Airlines is not only addressing the festive travel rush but also reinforcing its position in the competitive airline industry in Southeast Asia. As more travellers take to the skies, Vietnam Airlines is poised to capture a significant share of the increased traffic. Adapted by ASEAN Now from VN Express 2025-08-20 -

Drone Strikes on Refineries Push Prices to Record Highs
Wholesale gasoline prices in Russia have soared to historic highs after a wave of Ukrainian drone strikes forced several major oil refineries offline, deepening concerns of potential fuel shortages across the country. The benchmark price of AI-92 gasoline on the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange climbed to 71,500 rubles ($890, according to spot foreign exchange market data published by Reuters) per ton on Monday, while AI-95 reached 80,430 rubles ($1,000) per ton. The prices rose by 1.3% and 2.2% in a single day, respectively. Since the start of the year, AI-92 has jumped 38% and AI-95 nearly 49%. The surge comes after attacks this month knocked out operations at three major refineries: Rosneft’s Novokuybyshevsk plant on Aug. 2, its Saratov plant on Aug. 11 and Lukoil’s Volgograd refinery — the largest in southern Russia and one of the country’s top 10 producers — on Aug. 14. The shuttered facilities account for nearly 30 million tons of annual refining capacity, or about 11% of Russia’s total output in 2023, according to Reuters. Rosneft’s largest refinery, in Ryazan, has also suspended half its capacity since Aug. 2. Additional strikes have targeted the Syzran, Slavyansk and Afipsky refineries. The Kremlin imposed a temporary ban on gasoline exports until the end of August to contain the crisis and later extended it through September. Analysts say that measure is unlikely to have much effect, as Russia exports relatively little gasoline. The greater risk, sources told Reuters, is a full-fledged domestic shortage. Signs of strain are already emerging at the pump. In annexed Crimea, AI-95 has disappeared from most gas stations and remaining supplies are distributed mainly by ration cards. And it has vanished altogether in the towns of Krasnokamensk and Borzya in the Zabaikalsky region. Stations are restricting sales to businesses and organizations in at least two other regions. The Energy Ministry has sought to reassure the public, insisting on Aug. 13 that supplies remain stable and logistics uninterrupted. The shortfall, it said, is being offset by higher output at other refineries. https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/08/18/drone-strikes-on-refineries-push-russias-gasoline-prices-to-record-highs-a90271
