November 23, 200817 yr Because of denial, guilt and self hate which is rife in all religious communities. Are you for real? Where's Taddy with the open minded comments when you need him? Right here Sorry pampal but using the words 'rife' and 'all' in that statement, I have to completely disagree. Yippeee!!! Tiggs, please take this the way it is intended. There are some things that we will never see eye to eye on, religion being one of them (actually, it's the only one that springs to mind) You have your beliefs, I have mine, however, when something happens (I was trying to thinks of another way of saying gets posted, and failed) that completely contradicts reality ..... I'll be there with you, side by side.
November 23, 200817 yr You're an on-line mate of mine Taddy, I would never fall out with you over our differences of opinion. I would, however, love to meet up (ya can't do it on-line!) and have a proper chat. I think you may be surprised as to my beliefs and how I came to them. I am not an 'orthodox' christian! Grace & Peace
November 23, 200817 yr ..... I'll be there with you, side by side. I am not an 'orthodox' christian! Thank Heavens for that, I was getting a little worried that you two perhaps might begin to fall out, I should have known better really. Tigs, I can tell you are not an Orthodox Christian, but I can also tell that people do not understand your beliefs and will go all out to discredit them, after all it is not your site and you have never stated that you believe in all of it, just that you found it interesting. This is a cross over of two threads, but who cares. Thad is also very committed, I am just pleased you have both taken it the way I saw it, as a frank exchange of views. Moss
November 23, 200817 yr Thanks Moss, life's cool. Threads like this overlapping is only to be expected - it's still Bedlam!!!
November 24, 200817 yr I think there is a 'socialised' Christianity- the type which exists in society- and a more pure 'theoretical' Christianity- the type which is actually based on the words of Christ. The 'socialised' Christianity uses very selective sections of the Bible- mainly parts of the Old Testament law and Paul's letters in the New Testament- to give some sort of backing to their rampant homophobia. If they were using Jewish law as a guide, they'd be much more concerned over ritual cleanliness and avoiding usury (excessive profit) which is where the Bible spends a lot more of its time in the Old Testament, and they'd be much more concerned over religious hypocrisy, which is one of Jesus' main pet peeves in the New Testament. The only explanation for their emphasis on the topic is cultural and socially-based homophobia; it doesn't come from the Bible. To the extent of what I can judge to be 'real' Christianity, Jesus is pretty cool when it comes to 'rules'- love other people and treat them well. However, I've never seen a functional community version of this type of Christianity, though some individuals (like PB) qualify. "S"
