Currently comfortably ensconced in the Empress Hotel on Changklan Rd. All free courtesy of TAT, who are providing me with accomodation and 3 meals a day there. Just show your airline ticket out since this trouble began and your passport and they do the rest. Quite nice actually for a cheapskate like me.

By the way I had no trouble getting an overnight sleeper from Chiang Mai to Bangkok on Thursday 4th December and have booked another sleeper on the Bangkok to Butterworth train on 5th December.

I am hoping all parties, out of respect to the King will not escalate this dispute over the duration of his birthday weekend.

excellent , good to see someone with a pragmatic approach to all this and not making a drama out of a crisis , (or should that be a crisis out of a drama) , full marks to tat for doing what they should be doing for those caught up in this , good for public relations too.

It's good to read of people who are looking on the bright side and also getting off their butt and doing something about getting out (I assume you are heading to KL for a flight home).
