December 16, 200817 yr Anti-kidnap expert kidnapped A TOP US anti-kidnapping expert has been kidnapped in northeast Mexico, amid a wave of drug-related violence and kidnappings. Security adviser Felix Batista, 55, was abducted on December 10 in Saltillo in Coahuila state after taking part in two conferences on business security, Reforma Daily said, quoting local government officials. The abduction "was not violent," said Fausto Destenave Kuri, a state security official, who confirmed the abduction to Vanguardia website. Mr Batista is a Latin America consultant for US-based ASI Global Response, specialised in kidnap and ransom response services, according to his online profile, which was removed from the company's website, Reforma said. Rising kidnappings and two kidnap-murders of children from high-profile families in the past year have shocked the country. More than 200,000 people marched across Mexico in late August to protest against rising kidnappings and violence. Official figures show 954 kidnappings from January 1 to November 30 2008, but rights groups say there are two to three more cases to each one reported. Meanwhile, the country's top prosecutor said last week that more than 5300 people have died in suspected drug-related attacks this year. Link
December 16, 200817 yr Author Watch out for the movie "Man On Fire" with Denzel Washington. As well as being a cracking movie it explains just how serious kidnapping in Latin America/Mexico is.
December 16, 200817 yr Great actor, great movie...... one of the best I have seen. Unfortunately, the people that it should be delivering a message to are going home with a burger and fries...... that may change quite soon.... Mr and Mrs America sleep soundly in their beds all the same.
December 17, 200817 yr Author One of the best quotes I've ever heard in a movie is when Washington's ex CIA colleague is driving his heavily drinking friend to the body guarding job; Washington says "Do you think God will ever forgive us for what we've done?", and the guy says "No". It makes me think about the issues some of the people in the "war against terror" must be facing in these times.
