Thai Passport Application

Recommended Posts

I am a UK Citizen and my wife is Thai. Last year we obtained my elder daughters Thai Passport from the Thai Embassy in London. It was a fairly straight forward process and the passport was posted to us within a few weeks.

We now need to get our younger daughters Thai passport, they both have UK passports already. Next year we will be visiting both Thailand and the UK and I was wondering if there was any advantage or disadvantage by applying for the Thai passport in Thailand, or just do the same as before and apply for it in London. We should be in Thailand for three to four weeks.

Is it also correct that they should enter and leave the UK with their British Passports and enter and leave Thailand with their Thai passports ?

Would appreciate any advice thanks

You will get the passport quickly in Bangkok, so best do it there. Just use the UK passports. The stay is very short and no visa is required. It saves the hassles, and the arrival and departure stamps all line up.

It should not matter where the passport is issued.

Application in Bangkok will require Household papers and id cards.

Takes a week to process.

That is the best way.

They may have to show both passports at the airline check in, to show they have right of entry to Thailand.

Why bother when the stay doesn't exceed the 30 day allowance. I'm all for a simple hassle free life.

My guess would have though that applying in London would have been optimal, the process is straightforward and they know how to handle PP applications for overseas based Thai's.

The risk would be that once in LOS, the child will need relevant house registrations etc, which require additional running around/time in LOS to get, eating into important holiday time!!!

Agree with Doc though, if you are only headed there for less than 30 days, the Thai PP is not strictly necessary, and you can leave the application in London for another time, when you have time.

Khun wife recently got her replacement Thai passport via her Embassey here in London and delivery only took 4 weeks.

Quick visit down to South Ken (the visa office) fill in the form, pay the fee including £3 extra for them to send it direct to house (a bargain) by registered post and that was it.

I sat and watched the usual old video about Chiang Mai showing a couple of tatty looking elephants and the shops at kam-pang whats its road and then we were off...about 20 minutes in total. :o
