What Flash Should I Buy?

Featured Replies

I've decided to buy myself a flash to use with my Canon G9 as a Christmas present this year. Any suggestions as to what I might get that doesn't cost almost as much as the camera?

Canon 430EX if you can find one if not the 430 EX II is a good match, if you want to take it off camera (as you should) buy a TTL cord for it as well, a non-canon (but made for Canon) is best value. And don't forget an omnibounce to soften the light...

If you are a Strobist type you can get the Vivitar 285HV cheap.

Any idea where I could get a non-canon cord in Thailand? I have a 420EX.

You can buy it from fotofile.net just Go English, then Flash and scroll down to Tristar, there is a Shoe Mount for Canon E-TTL for 1550 Baht versus the Canon for 2800 baht. There is one for Nikon as well for anyone who uses Nikon.

No worries, I use the 430 EX II off camera and it is brilliant on my camera. Love it, put on a stofen diffuser buy a pack of gels and have a lot of fun with it.

Used off camera cord with a 430 EX II and stofen diffuser, put the flash in -1ev and it came out like this unaltered in any software. I like it not a super picture but it was the 20th shot I did with the flash which is incredibly easy to use a bit more creative than just auto setting.
