Addressing A Letter

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me.

I'm writing a business letter to a Thai person. Do I write "Khun" before their name?

Thanks,

Try:-

1. เรียน ท่านผู้จัดการ or

2. เรียน คุณ (name)

------------------------------------

1. ri-an tum-poo-jat-gahn - Dear manger/director etc.

2. ri-an khun + name - Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss.

Scouse.

Does that person read english ??? or can that person get the letter translated.

If you are writing a business letter, it may be better to do it in English.

It is customary and common to use "Khun" in English business letters sent within a Thai context, however, if this person has another title or rank that you are aware of, such as Dr., you should use this title/rank instead.

Scouse's advice with "rian" followed by the title and name of the addressee is correct for business letters in Thai.
