Naked Germans Jump in Ice-Cold Lake for Good Health

BERLIN (Reuters) - About 30 Germans wearing nothing more than red Santa Claus caps leapt into a Berlin lake for their annual Christmas Day swim on Saturday, a dip in the ice-cold water they believe is good for their health.

Won’t inflict pictures on you, but if you think you can take it :o

I love really cold showers in the morning. There's nothing like a cold water shock treatment to your body to wake you up after a night of boozing.

Don't think I could throw myself into an icy lake or sea though. :o

Wouldn't risk it myself, Ive heard a few stories of Brits doing it in their own country and dying, not sure if its heart attacks. In the past there have even been national t.v. ads warning people not to jump into lakes etc in the British summertime. Why anyone would want to do that anyway is beyond me.

This is an extremely dangerous practice.

The shock to ones system can cause your blood pressure to jump (almost instantly) from normal to over 300, possibly causing an aneurysm which then may lead to a hemorrhagic stroke.

It has also been documented that jumping into extremely cold water may result in drowning. The shock of the cold water on ones nervious system could cause the victum to take an involuntary breath while under water.

This practice is "not conducive to longevity".
