for saving 3000 baht ill queue for 5 mins at immigration at SVB. Immigration is fine now - they have upped their game a bit and a lot less tourists. Last 4 months never waited more than 10 mins either leaving or arriving.

That's an overpriced service if I've ever heard one.

This is what I do:

I met a kind man who works for JAL, and one time he spotted my parents coming off the plane and was kind enough to help them out, through immigration, baggage claim, customs. Now I don't know how or why he first spotted my parents coming through (maybe because they are a cute old couple), but now every time my parents fly in/out of BKK, I call him and he sorts out everything for them and I just give him a few hundred baht for his kindness.

He seems to always be working when my parents arrive/leave, and for some reason he remembers their faces every time. So 300 baht for the same services offered for 3000 baht above, plus probably with genuine kindness rather than greed as the motivation. Seems like a good deal to me.

I think the above service includes your limo to Pattaya. Considering a taxi/limo from the airport would cost between 1300/1500 you are really only paying 500 - 700 for the VIP treatment through immigration....not such a bad deal after all if you havnt much time.. :o

Strange on their site the trip begins at 2700 baht for a 3 door sedan (no mention of any meeting at airport door) up to 9600 baht for a Mercedes.........one way :o

He's posted the same message on another message board, although he didn't mention his "mum."

The fee mentioned is indeed on top of the cost for the journey.

I believe it's intended to serve a niche market. I'll leave you to speculate on the members of the niche, but "clueless" & "drooling" are a part of the description.

And what do the escorts look like? Pretty? :o

Escort services, immigration services and limousine/taxi services are three completely different things. Perhaps an English lesson will help?

Well, in the other version of this that I read, you would be "whisked through Immigrations and Customs."

Possibly being whisked by an escort is addressing the needs of an even smaller niche market than I originally thought.

Does "escorted through immigration and customs" mean that you more or less can walk straight through or is it just someone holding your hand while you stand in the same line as everybody else?

Now this is a different type of escorting, but when my husband and I landed in BKK, some one was there to meet us at the plane and whisk us through everything, right up to the curbside.

Hubby had a knee problem and used a cane, so that is why we accepted help. Immigration: we were taken to the head of the lines, and the assistant did everything for us. Baggage: assistant took care of that; we never lifted a finger. Transport to hotel: it being quite late at night and we were so exhausted from hours and hours of traveling, we opted for a nicer ride from one of the airport counters. Sure it cost a little more, but it was worth it.

Later, it turned out hubby had "water on the knees"; outpatient procedures took care of that.

The assistant was happy to receive a nice tip!

I flew in early-morning, last Monday (from SFO) and nearly every Immigration gate was open. It took longer to walk the last 20m to the officer, than it took the officer to process my passport. There was only one "nothing to declare" Customs gate open, and that process took 5 minutes.

I think some of you are missing the point of this service. If you are young, fit and know your way, why bother? If you are old and infirm, a first time arrival or got a wedge, why not?

I thought this was a thread about top class totty. :D:D:D

:wai: me too. A quickie in the departure lounge sounded really good,.... Dammit...

There is another thread somewhere here regarding the airport "VIP" service provided by "Thai Long Stay". This is the company that was set up under Taksin and offered the famous one million baht membership. A couple years ago they introduced a "silver" package which cost about 10k Baht I think. This package provided an ID card which could be used for VIP service at the airport, including escorting thru immigration. I'm not old or infirm but my work requires me to travel in and out of Suvarnabhumi about 4-6 times a month and it was a bargain for me to be able to avoid the long immigration lines. OK about half the time the lines were short and the service wasn't needed but the other times the lines were long and I probably saved between 30 minutes and an hour on each trip thru. This service has allowed me to arrive at the airport late and also allowed me to get into town quickly. For the average tourist the time savings doesn't matter. But this is important if you are working and when getting into town on a Friday before the banks close at 3:30 is important or when it allows another appointment to be scheduled in the day. This card and the service has saved (or earned) me a lot more than the cost of 10k or whatever it was. Additionally the "Silver Service" introduced a "Get a Thai Driving License" service and I used that as well which probably saved me at least half a day.

In any case the purpose of this post is to point out that something seems to be happening to this company "Thai Long Stay". OK I've read in the papers about the Govt discussions about closing this operation down and I agree the million baht membership was crazy and can't believe some people actually bought it.

For the last year I have used the ID card when going thru immigration. I didn't bother phoning and asking for an escort (which is the recommended procedure). With the ID card one can go thru the diplomatic channel. However in the last two months it's been spotty. I've twice been turned away upon arrival from the diplomatic immigration booth (being accepted about 4 times). Also on departure it's becoming hit and miss. Although the diplomatic booths have never turned me away on departure, they no longer have the diplomatic booths at all the immigration departure areas. They now have a "VIP" channel. I've been able to use the Thai Long Stay ID at this VIP channel about 50% of the time, i.e. sometimes they turn me away.

However if I phone in advance (arrival or departure) Thai Long Stay will provide an escort and with the escort there is never any problem. But frankly it's an added hassle for me to phone the escort service on departure and then meet them at a pre-arranged spot at a certain time. For departure I want to arrive at the airport whenever I can and quickly check-in and get thru immigration and to the gate. I don't want to have to worry about an appointment before check-in. So having to use the escort for departure is not as good as simply flashing an ID. Arrival with the escort is a bit easier because they meet you at the gate when you arrive. However this involves phoning them for another country before you depart and from experience I can tell you that they don't always answer their phone.

Anyway ... I know some others on this forum are using this "Thai Long Stay" silver service .... anyone else notice any recent changes?
