Hey there

I'm a Swiss/British citizen currently living in Switzerland. I have been in Thailand for several times and have a Thai girlfriend since two years. As she does not like Switzerland i want to search for work in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore or Hongkong. Of course also because i think Asia is a very interesting area relating to business in the next couple of years and i like the warm weather.

I have saved some money, around 940'000 Baht so i planned to come to Bangkok, stay with my girlfriend, apply for jobs and fly to whatever country for interviews. I have planned to stay in Bangkok for 11 month. If i don't find a job until then i'll go back to Switzerland.

I sought it will be easy staying in Thailand doing the Visa runs. But now I have tripped over the new regulations that Visa runs are limited and i have to leave the country for 180 days in between.

Can you tell me what options I have to stay in Thailand longer then these 60 or 90 days?

Do you think that I can get a Visa for a year when I can proof to the embassy, that I have enough money?

Do you think there is an option for a 1 year visa combined with a Thai Language School? I'm also interested to enhance my language skills :o

Does it help, when i have an uncle (Swiss Citizen, retired) that lives in Thailand already that could give guarantees?

I'm thankful for any inputs.

Cheers

Without a visa you can come to thailand and get pemission to stay for 30 days every time you arrive by air. When arriving by land you get only 15 days. The rule that you can only get a maximum of 90 days in 6 months has been abolished.

Another option is to get a double entry tourist visa. This will allow you to stay for 60 days in Thailand, which you can extend by 30 days for 1,900 baht. After that you will need to leave the country but come right back in the same day to get another 60 days and an extension. This will give you almost 6 months. After that you can get a new double entry tourist visa in Laos.

A good option is indeed an educational visa for staying at a language school. It requires you study on avarage 4 hours a week and the course is around 29,000 baht. On top of this page are 2 language schools where you can get more information.

As you plan to travel a lot for finding a job, don't forget to apply for a (multiple) re-entry permit. Without it your permission to stay in Thailand will expire.

Yes. You do have a few options. None of them perfect but it will enable you to stay.
