Hello all and Happy New Year to everyone!!!

The time has come for me to renew my non Imm O visa. I have a thai wife, and rather than travel back to Australia to do this, can anyone suggest the best place to get this done.-Any particular consulate in Malaysia etc? Also what the hel_l is my wife's "Thai house registration"-not even she knows!!!

Any suggestions or past experiences would be great!!!

Cheers Sandy from OZ!

being married why not get an extension of stay at the immigration, you'll stay in thailand the entire year without the hassle to go out every 90 days?

400.000 in the bank and the job is alsmost done, if i was married i would choose this option for sure.

It actually says on the visa"extension of stay not permitted"-it has to be renewed anually.

I think I have the tabien baan sorted-now all I need to know is the best consulate to go to ??????????? :o

sandy, I think you may actually be able to extend even tho it says no extension. you would probably get better answers from the Visas forum on this, if you would prefer it moved.

Not sure if the years extension is possible-I left Thailand a week before the visa expired-effectively giving me 15 months here-since then border runs etc-never overstayed. I went back to Oz last week with all the required papers-as per the Thai Embassy in Canberra website-drove the 3 hours to Canberra to Sydney, only to be told that I didn't have all the required papers. I said that I had all that was required as per the website-and the guy just said "Oh it's an old site", :o ,and of course the Sydney Thai consulate site WAS up to date, but as my family live near Canberra, and that was where I got my original visa-I stupidly went there!!! So came back on a 30 day entry visa, hoping I could get it done in a neighbouring country. But having done some reading here tonight, it seems that neighbouring countries aren't doing multi entries. Is this so? and if not, where is the best, quickest place to go from Samui?

You can get the 12 month extension on a 30 days entry if you have at least 21 days remaining on it. If you do not have this go to Penang and get a single Non Imm O or a Tourist Visa and do it from that.

Go and talk to Samui Immigration.

I am going to move this to the Visa forum. You can ask for it to be moved back if you want.

Sandy, if ever you should require the services of a Thai consulate in Australia again, avoid the embassy in Canberra like the plague. The fact that they added “extension of stay not permitted” to your visa by itself is proof of their gross ignorance, and ignorance is accompanied by incompetence. If they weren’t government employees they would not last in their jobs for a week.

You definitely are entitled to annual extensions for living with your Thai wife as long as you meet the financial requirements, ie monthly income of 40k or 400k in a Thai bank account in your name alone for at least two months before application. While Samui immigration office behaves like a law unto itself in some respects (higher than official application fees) there have been no reports of applications for extension being denied in a situation like yours. Go for it.
