Almost Refused Entry at Chiang Mai Airport -Be Warned! - 2nd Visa Exemption
Though the OP is a good heads up, I'd suggest that someone without 14 years of experience needn't worry so much. There's people reading in that are now unnecessarily worried about their 2nd or 3rd ever entry. And even with 14 years of entering Thailand, the OP was still allowed in on visa exempt after filling in some paperwork and answering some questions. Which is a good cautionary tale to have your documents and cash lined up. -

US Targets Thai Products for Stringent Origin Verification Amid Trade Concerns
I do believe that is all part of the "ZERO-DOLLAR" business of the Chinese. If you haven't been paying attention to local complaints from the Chinese-owned stores or rented by Chinese folks then since they negotiated their trade deal with the Chinese, the shops have been inundated with super cheap qualtiy on Chinese merchandise, in many cases copies of Thai-made items. Same with Chinese tourists, they got vouchers to shop but only at the Chinese controlled shops and therefore weren't spending so much here.. After Thai complants, I guess the Chinese are now going to VN instead so the Thais afe compaining now that Chinese tourists have dropped drastically. IMHO of course. -
