My wife (56 yrs and New Zealand nationality) and I (61 years old, Dutch nationality, NZ permanent residency) currently hold a one year Non-immigrant O-A visa, issued in New Zealand last March.

At the time of issue, I think we paid a NZ$ 250.- fee each, provided the documents stating we had no convictions, provided a copy of medical certificates and marriage status, financial information etc.

We are currently living in Thailand. We will need to renew this soon. Options are doing so while on a family visit in NZ next month or here.

Questions:

1. I have a bank record of monthly transfer of more then 65K bt from my dutch bank into my Kasikorn account (for about 18 months so far). My wife doesn't, got her visa in NZ based upon proof of investments (held in NZ by a NZ investment house).

Would my record of income brought into Thailand from overseas of 65k+/month be sufficient to secure both our visa extensions for another year, or only for me?

Her investments can be documented again in NZ and notarised here, but I'm not sure if they would be accepted since they are in NZ and not held here.

2. Do we need new copies of the justice document that says we have no convictions?

3. How long would this application take to b approved (Jomtien immigration office)?

4. what is the cost for renewing the visa for another year in Thailand?

You can get an extension here for yourself for retirement and then one for your wife as your dependent at immigration. Your income is the only one that will need to be shown. You will need a copy of your marrigage certificate for this.

1. You will need a letter from your embassy to prove your income. You will need to contact them for info on what they require to do the letter.

2. not required

3. If you go early it will be the same day or the next day if late or they are busy.

4. 1900 baht for each extension.

You will also need the following for each extension.. 1 photo, TM7 form and copy of passport photo page. visa. entry/permit to stay stamps, and TM6 (departure card). Also proof of address. Take your bank book along also because they may want to see proof that you have money coming in and have some money in the bank.

Look up the website of the Dutch embassy for instructions.

If you are in Bangkok, go up to Soi Tomson with proof of income, takes a little time to get the letter from the Embassy.

Can also be done by mail.

As said, apply for a 12 month extension here in Thailand. No police report or medical needed. You get the extension and your wife applies as your dependant.

BTW is your O-A Visa a Single Entry or Multi Entry?

Just looked at the Wellington website. You must be on a Single Entry.

Nong Khai immigration officer told me in September 2008 bank book and bank letter confirming monthly income from abroad is sufficient, embassy letter is not required but sufficient for first extension if there is no bank book. I propose to ask at your immigration office.

This is the first time that I have heard this.

Nong Kai are not known for being very helpful.

This is from the Immigration Website.http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php
