Hi all, as this is my first post please let me briefly introduce myself.

I’m from the UK and married to a Thai (correctly registered in both countries), we have 2 beautiful children who have dual nationality (Inc passports) and were both born in the UK. Whilst in the UK my wife was on a FLR visa which, unfortunatley is due to expire in 6 months. During the period of the FLR my wife was in the UK for just over a year. I work for a global company and am currently working on assignment in Thailand for the next two years along with my family. As the FLR visa will expire in 6 months I’m unsure of what to do as we would like to have the ability to travel back to the UK when ever we feel like it. As we are not present in the UK I guess we cannot apply for another FLR. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

You have 2 options, return to the UK and take a job here (or ask your current employer to be based here) and work through the visa process until she can come and go with no problem, or abandon it now and hope that the visas and FLR you've got so far will secure a longer length visit visa enabling you not to have to re-apply every time you want to go back to the UK.

thanks for the reply CharlieB, not really a viable soloution but thanks for taking the time to reply. I have emailed the UKBI and hopefully they will be sensible enough to provide a suitable soloution. Fingures crossed and lets see.

As she is not resident in the UK at present and apparently will not be so when her current LTR expires then she will not qualify for ILR or another FLR.

If you wish to visit the UK after her FLR has expired then she will need to obtain a visit visa. Given the circumstances this should not be a problem.

When (if) you wish to return to the UK to live then she will need to apply for another settlement visa. Again, this should be a formality for a couple in your circumstances.
