Cheaper in thailand?

I had the same thoughts about the laptop before I came here. I did decide in the end, that as there was little or no price diference, that I would buy in Thai if only because of getting it repaired easily. I bought a Compaq because there are service facilities nearby. Thankfully havn't need it yet.

Okay cheers,

I just assumed it would be cheaper to buy electrical and electronic stuff out there . . . . been trying to find out price differences on the internet, but no luck.

Thing is I think I'll get withdrawal symptoms if I have to sell the pc I have at home here, and then wait till I find one to buy over there . . .

thanks again :o

Dont forget to ensure that you have a valid and filled in VAT refund form from wherever/whoever you buy your Laptop,Gold chains,Lol-lexs etc.A receipt fom Jimmy the Weasal at MBK or Pantip with a price and dodgy stamp will get the thumbs down from Airport VAT returns office.(landside-not airside)

Also I have always found them quite helpfull and no hassle as long as you have the right "chops" paperwork and of course your stash.

hi'

for mresF, you can find good snooker cues here as weel as nice snooker club all over the country :o

and may I say it's better to get your cue here, for a climate reason, here it's wet and sometime real hot and dry, a cue coming from england won't resist no longer than a raining season and then a dry one ... don't forget the wood is alive.

and prices are nice too, it is possible to find a good hand-made cue for around 100$.

for laptop I agree with everyone, better to buy here!

all the best

Hi MrsF

This is how the Tax Refund works. Foreigners are entitle for a VAT refund [i.e.:  7%. Of your Invoice Value] only if you take the product brought from Thailand to another country. [Not applicable for product use in Thailand]

If you buy your Laptop from a reputed Computer Hardware dealer in Thailand they charge you with 7% VAT. You will be able to see this in the Invoice. But some shops will not charge you VAT separate.

For a product like a Notebook, I advice you to stay away from those shops.

Whenever the shop charge VAT separate, you should ask for a valid Invoice with the Company Seal on it.

[ I can recommend you a Company called “Data IT”, inside Panthip 2nd Floor.]

If the Company charge you VAT separate, then by filling out the necessary Forms, you will be able to get this 7% back from the VAT refund office inside Airport.  [Data IT know the exact procedure and they even have the necessary forms]

If you need any advice on selecting a good configuration for your Notebook or any other related matter, you can email me at [email protected].

Good Luck

My 2 cents...

I am in TL now and need a new laptop bad, so I've been look A LOT. I have been disapointed with the selection and prices I have found here. There are heavy import duties those importers have to pay so my research showed you can always find a given model cheaper outside TL if you no where to look.

I looked at Dell, Sony, HP, Compaq and always found better US prices but i don't know about UK.

:D thanks for info on snooker cues Francois . . I suppose it's common sense about the wood ,now that you've mentioned it.

My husband is a big snooker fan, he'd like to get employment in that field, how feasible do you think that would be over there ? A few years ago he ran a snooker club in spain and played with a few famous names . . he's quite good.

::o: kwiz117, cheers for spelling out the tax refund, I'm getting more help and advice from you guys than trying to research into things myself . . . I just have so many questions  B) I want to do everything right.

I still don't know where to buy my laptop, can't make up my mind . .  ???
