Cat Don't Allow Change Of Cdma Modem And Keeping Contract

Featured Replies

I have been using a PCMCIA Sierra Wireless Aircard on CAT Telecoms CDMA EVDO network for 2 years or so in Phuket.

I am on the unlimited plan still at the price when it was first offered, 590 Baht / month plus Tax.

Now I have a new laptop that does not have a PCMCIA slot, so I thought about getting the ovation MC 727 USB modem that CAT offer. I went to Phuket Cental Festival CAT office and told them I want to buy the ovation MC 727 USB modem and use it on my existing plan. Can not, have to make a new contract that is now going for 800 something Baht per month.

Would be nice if they would allow their subscribers to keep their existing contract and change to new hardware.

Did anyone sucessfully keep their old CAT contract with a new modem?

I am keeping my Aircard + old contract for my desktop replacement laptop and made a new contract with the USB modem for my portable laptop now. No big problem since the contracts can be cancelled anytime, just wanted to post it for anyone who is considering to switch to different hardware on their CAT plan.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a Sierra card, but new laptops don't have PC card slots. Do you have to buy the USB modem if you are an existing customer and if so how much does it cost? Is the USB modem faster than the Sierrra card.

It's different price plans as they are different speed.

Are you saying that the USB modem is technically capable of higher speeds than the Sierra modem?

Yes. The max speed for the CCU-680 is better, max. 3.1 Mbps
