TonySoprano Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Is there any company that offers them? How many driving hours does one need before they can feel safe behind the wheel? I live in Thong Lo area, so something around there would be good.

junkofdavid2 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I found these lessons and teacher to be very decent. On Suk 71 near corner of Soi 39 I think... Don't be fooled by the crummy-looking office though. Note however that I only took lessons for automatic, in the school's relatively new Toyota Vios. Their manual car looked horrible. Was an old car... not many newer manual cars around Bangkok anymore I guess. 08-6895-8660. (If I'm correct!!?) Teacher is an old retired Thai-English teacher who now teaches driving in his own shop. His office is managed by his wife; a pleasant old lady who's difficult to understand, but very pleasant nevertheless. (If you don't encounter these two people, then I must've given you the wrong number, sorry..) Costs less than 500 per hour if I remember right... all inclusive of teacher/car/gasoline; but you kinda buy several hours in a 'package' of some sort and it comes out cheaper. Pretty good deal in my opinion. Hope it helps!
TonySoprano Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 "On Suk 71 near corner of Soi 39 I think..." Thank You, that sounds great, although a bit expensive. I don't however understand those directions.
junkofdavid2 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Suk 71 has it's own sois inside it... So coming from Sukhumvit main, go down Suk 71; and then on the left side of Suk 71, you'll see Soi 39 (i.e. Soi 39 of Suk 71). It was definitely significantly cheaper than 500. Can't remember exactly.
TonySoprano Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 thanks. do they have a driving course or do they just take you out on the street? i would prefer a driving course if one exists in bangkok.
junkofdavid2 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I don't know. They MIGHT have the course for first time drivers. I went there insisting that I'm already an "expert" driver and just wanted practice sessions for driving on the left side of the road, unlike in the states where cars drive on the right side.
draide Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 @ TonySoprano Did you manage to find it? Would appreciate if you could share the details. I too would like to learn how to drive. Thanks.
robitusson Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 The info on this thread's a bit old but it's the same topic as I wanted to post. Anyone know of any places which instruct in English? Thanks in advance.
