I have a Thai friend who wants to let me take over one of his cars, a 3 month old Toyota Vios for 10K per month. There is no downpayment or other hidden costs. Is this a good deal? Even if i dun get ownership of the car i can treat it like a long term lease. Anyway I have to pay monthly for 6 months. The car is registered in Nong Khai, does this makes a difference at all? I want to drive it in Bangkok.

yes that is a good deal, as renting would cost you around 17 K a month...

will you only be renting, or paying off the finance?

will you only rent for 6 months?

Sorry typo....i will be paying off the finance for 6 years. His monthly instalments are 10K per month. He says after that the car will be mine but i cannot be too sure about that but if its such a good deal then i dun mind.

However it is cheap to rent a new car at 10K a month but it doesn't stay new.

Sounds a bit fishy to me regarding the change of ownership at the end of the period as you can change the name on the finance to your name right from the beginning and you will pay the same.

Not sure if it changed with the current economic climate but I financed a car some years ago,I have never had income in thailand, and the only thing I needed was a thai guarantee who also had no income.Guess it all depends how much downpayment was made on the car.The finance company is registered as the owner of the car until the finance is paid for completely and they will require a first class insurance on the car so if it is stolen or total loss they will recieve the money.
