Newin to Thaksin: Tell your men to stop hurting the monarchy

By The Nation

A tearful Newin Chidchob on Tuesday launched a stinging attack on former boss Thaksin Shinawatra and asked him to put a brake on the red shirted movement's activities that may have upset His Majesty the King. His voice choked with emotion, Newin said if he could ask for two things from Thaksin after "risking my life" for him, he would want the former prime minister to "tell his men" to stop "hurting" the monarch and ending activities that could damage Thailand as a whole.

The political drama unfolded on TV as Newin and his colleagues appeared at a press conference to rebut claims by the redshirted movement that they had "betrayed" Thaksin.

The "real betrayal" and "utter show of ingratitude", he said, was Thaksin's treatment of Samak Sundaravej when he was made to believe that Thaksin was 100 per cent behind efforts to reinstate him as prime minister last year. Newin claimed Thaksin betrayed Samak by asking coalition allies and some People Power Party MPs to back Somchai Wongsawat as prime minister after Samak had been disqualified in the cooking show controversy.

Newin asked red shirted protesters who planned to join in a mass rally on Wednesday to reconsider their decision, saying their leaders had ulterior motive beyond toppling Abhisit government.

Newin, who once a right hand man of runaway ex-PM Thaksin Shinawtara, said that the leaders of the protesters have held people hostage in order to achieve their goals and for their own benefits.

"Please think twice, the red shirt protesters. You all are being used. Your leaders have hidden agenda beyond what they told you, beyond ousting this government," he said.

Newin's voice was choked with emotion when he said he was ready to die for the monarchy and would do anything to fight those who wanted to destroy the monarchy.

In his phone-ins, Thaksin has encouraged the protesters to join the mass rally on April 8, to oust Abhisit government.

He directed most of his press conference on denying that he betrayed Thaksin by turning to support Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva to form the government.

"It is Khun Thaksin that betrayed us all, particularly on exPrime Minister Samak Sundaravej. Khun Thaksin and his Thai Rak Thai party had done everything to push for Samak to become prime minister.

However it was him that finally betrayed Khun Samak by not voting for him to be reappointed as prime minister.

Newin's voice was choked with emotion when he said he was ready to die for the monarchy and would do anything to fight those who wanted to destroy the monarchy.

Abhisit got a big round of applause when he said during his Oxford speech....'please stop bringing the monarchy into this'

and yet his acolytes constantly do so (complete with crocodile tears) to try to score brownie points.

Thaksin showed for years his administration could operate within a constitutional monarchy system, and nobody tried to destroy it.

...So much melodramatic posturing. Its like going to the opera. Lets get the scrap on tomorrow, and whoever loses can go home and shut-up and stop making veiled threats abut how hard they are.

Some claim (I have not enough knowledge to agree or disagree) that he tried to damage and undermine it.

Rak Chiang Mai 51 group left for Bangkok

Udon Lovers Club before they travelled to Bangkok this evening.

So now we have two of the more notorious and historically more violent factions of the Red Shirts on their way.

Time to mix the yellow food colouring into those water trucks and get the water cannons ready ;-)

"tried" is very carefully expressed.... let's see where this will end him up after all he may enjoy what it means to be granted:

the privilege of Persona non Grata!

henryalleman - your correct wikipedia is not 100% accurate all the time and can be changed by the user that is its strength as well as weakness, you should go on there and make the changes to any article that isn't factual if you are so inclined. What quote do you not agree/believe.

May I ask - where you get your information and facts from?

http://petercherbi.wordpress.com/2007/10/0...tics-reformers/

http://antwerp.wordpress.com/2006/11/05/is...ly-manipulated/

http://www.irene-amelia.com/id79.html

Just google Wikipedia manipulated and you will see 338 000 hits

I am not denying that wikipedia can be and has been manipulated, its the nature of the beast considering the abiltiy for anyone to edit - it is still a common source to find and investigate facts, im sure 99% of journalist have found themselves on it at one time or another.

And where do you get your facts and information from that you use to develop an opinion?

Personally I use Wikipedia to draw some information from, not as a sole history and viewpoint of the world but a definite aid to develop my reality of the world around me.

Please share your source for an unbias take on these current events.

BTW - what does the number of google hits have to do with anything? If you Google - dog s*** you will get over 38 million web pages. Whats the point?

Wikipedia recieves 14,000 hits per second - its safe to say there are many that do put some trust into the site.

Well as political drama-queen Thaksin is performing better.

(I loved his performance when spoke in the rain, total wet.....)

They would all fit better into the Muppet show....

Au contraire............many things got destroyed during those dark years of Thaksinocracy...........most important of which was the rule of law and a functioning justice system........which if it had worked, might have avoided the deaths of nearly 3,000 souls by extra-judicials methods, fully endorsed and encouraged by Mr T himself.

You really need to swot up on modern Thai history a bit before posting such tripe.

By the way, thought you didn't cover "Thai politics"? seems like an amazing turnaround for someone so aloof before. :o

That is where we are at. After what Thaksin has said and what has been whispered about him for ages, not helped by his sons silly outburst in a bar, but mostly after what he has said recently the reds loyalty is their weak point and their enemies will assail it for all its worth and the upcountry rural poor of the N and Isaan value it very highly too. Newin isnt an idiot.

If Thaksin were to return to power the system he returned to would be very different form the one he operated in before.

Anyway interesting to watch all the pro and anti sparring on here which is kind of irrelevent when the main event is approaching fast and right now after Thaksins little unobstructed media run we see the government side mount a quick counteroffensive. Both sides are resorting to what are low blows even by Thai politcal standards, so it is interesting to watch. Who emerges the victor remains to be seen if indeed there is one as Thai politcs has a tendency to have unexpected endings. We can probbaly guess that it wont be the ordinary person who comes out best though as politcians arent really concerned about such people.

So, lets bring in the red Wuffians.......if there's no room for a negotiated deal, the best way to decide this is with a big fight.

Time to get this thing on. Too late now to worry about tactical feints and perceived non-fairplay. Time for the red ruffians to put up or shut up and lets have a rumble.
..So much melodramatic posturing. Its like going to the opera. Lets get the scrap on tomorrow, and whoever loses can go home and shut-up and stop making veiled threats abut how hard they are.

So Scoop- I've been reading your posts since sometime before you ran away to Hong Kong, and I'm becoming increasingly worried. Have you actually lost the plot, or did you never make it out of the country?

I'm sure your posts are laden with irony but I must admit I'm not quite getting it. Exactly what point are you trying to make?

The 'bloodshed is good angle' doesn't really fit the personality I'm used to observing. Did you get kidnapped at the airport? Or have you got a new job with The Sun?

Supporters of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra scuffle with security men as they try to attack the car carrying Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva after he was stuck in a traffic in Pattaya April 7, 2009. Protesters attacked a car carrying Vejjajiva on Tuesday as a minister warned that opposition elements wanted to cause chaos at a big rally this week in a bid to topple the government. Abhisit was unhurt, but a window in his car was smashed when a group of red-shirted demonstrators surrounded the vehicle in Pattaya.

Supporters of Privy Council Chief Argue with Red-shirts in Nakhon Si Thammarat

UPDATE : 7 April 2009

Political tension is spilling over from the capital into the provinces. In Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, supporters of Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda confronted local red-shirt anti-government protesters last night.

Meanwhile, a red-shirt leader in Udon Thani Province was arrested after trying to interrupt a rally by a yellow-shirt group. Fortunately, no violence was reported at either incident.

About 20 red-shirt protesters led by Surachai Danwattananusorn gathered in front of the Nakhon Si Thammarat City Hall last night. They denounced Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda in offensive language and urged supporters to join the massive anti-government rally scheduled for tomorrow by the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship.

Meanwhile, about 400 yellow-shirt supporters of General Prem had gathered nearby, about 100 metres from the red-shirt rally. Tensions continually rose as each group repeatedly turned up the volume on their loudspeakers, trying to drown out the other group, while police gathered in the middle.

Despite being heavily outnumbered, the red-shirt supporters continued their strong attacks against General Prem. This enraged the Privy Council president's yellow-shirt supporters, who sent a representative via the police to ask that the red-shirt group to stop using impolite language to attack the Privy Council president. The red-shirts ignored the request.

Eventually, dozens of General Prem's supporters broke through the police line and demanded to negotiate directly with the red-shirt protesters, including Surachai, who reportedly fled to a nearby building and began brandishing a firearm at the pursuing yellow-shirt crowd, causing them to disperse.

Police seized Surachai's gun and escorted him to safety. They said no charges would be filed against him.

Meanwhile, many of the yellow-shirt supporters present at the rally are now headed to Bangkok to demonstrate their support for General Prem at his home, where the red-shirt group have threatened to stage a large rally.

In Udon thani Province, meanwhile, local red-shirt leader Kwanchai Paipana was arrested after leading a group of red-shirt members to harass a group of yellow-shirt supporters who were holding a rally there.

end of quote:

Is there something else happening which everyone oversaw? At some places yellows are moving. Sure not a big movement yet, but a few thousands from the south who feel that the Monarchy is in danger might be a bad mix into the red demonstrations.

Newin

he is dead meat.

with Thaksin around, there's lots of precedence for that.

Well I wouldn't bet on that one, now not a single Satang!

imho "he" is just putting the final nails into his very own coffin of "no return"...

and then - who knows we could ALL be in for some big surprise -

in a few years or months time.... who knows what this fuss now -

is really all about!?

Previously, lots of people liked to compare the expected outcome in Western countries of incidents occurring in Thailand, eg. seizing the airport, occupation of Government House.

In the Pattaya situation, I have small doubt the Secret Service would have a put a bullet in every one of those of people attacking the vehicle of the U.S. president.

The only place I'm moving this weekend is to the beach, same goes for the boss woman. I think the REDS will do damage to themselves, without help from the Yellows. They already have a head start at it, using violence in Pattaya.

GUN...hmmm interesting for a peaceful demonstration :o

UDD expects to face teargas, cow-itch

Police have prepared supplies of teargas and extracts from the cow-itch plant to disperse red-shirt protesters during Wednesday's mass rally, according to United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) core member Nattawut Saikua.

Police have them ready for use against the protesters who will march to Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda's Si Sao Thewes residence, Mr Nattawut said on Tuesday.

The cow-itch plant is also also known as the trumpet vine. It causes skin irritation.

Seems to me that driving the PM around like this is absolutely bound to lead to trouble. After being told that there were "thousands" of police to protect the meeting, it would seem that they parted like the red sea to let the protesters get at the cars.

I mean in all honesty, if protesters can get this close, it won't be long until something awful happens. I would suggest that the PM politely ask the BIB for a lot better protection next time. And since every copper in Thailand knows how to stop traffic amazingly effectively, can't they put the lights to green to at least let the PM get out?

Tempers are rising, and surely he shouldn't be driving around in what appears to be a standard Fortuner. Protecting the current PM is the first thing they should be doing if the plan is to avoid "civil war".
