DTiger Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Hi, Need a little advice from those of you who already faced that question. My wife, thai, changed her name because of marriage, and so, got new thai ID and thai passport. She has a 10 years visa to US (B1/B2) on her "old" (previous name) passport. Is there a standard procedure or an usual and easy way to avoid carrying both passports for the next 9 years left? Thanks in advance! Ben

Ben Ben\ Hmmm, hadn't thought of that situation before, visa in old passport with former name, photo (hopefully) about the same, personal data the same, but traveling on new passport with married name, and carrying both. Not quite the situation as MattFS218's, also today, or my wife's, as she kept her Thai name after we got married. lopburi3 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Believe your wife needs a new visa as the US will not transfer; even if the same name.

Lop3 Agreed, they will not transfer the 10-year visa to the new passport that has the new name, but it might still work with carrying both passports along the way. Wonder if the embedded biomentrics in the passports are the same, Thai ID number, etc. Mac
lopburi3 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 The Thai personal number (ID card number) is on Thai passport and would be the same. But I would not want to try it myself as expect it would case major heartburn everywhere - from check-in to arrival. Name on manifest is very important these days and visa name would be different. To me the cost of getting a new visa would be money well spent.
