Hi,

I am wondering what my options are for visa. I have read other posts and the visa guidelines and I am still confused!

Basically I am under 30, I have a child born by a Thai lady. Is there a visa that allows me to stay in thailand for a long time?

I dont have a huge amount of cash lying around.

Please if you genuinely know, can you give me some advise.

Thanks in advance.

Without a lot of cash. Your best bet is probably a Non Imm O Visa Multi Entry. Available from the Thai Consulate in Hull. http://www.thaiconsul.co.uk/. You can apply by post.

This gives unlimited entries of up to 90 days each. Do the final entry just before it expires and you get another 90 days giving a total of 15 months.

If you have the money or an income look here for extension rules.2.18(5)

Your Thai child only gives you rights if you are either married to the mother or have legitimised the child (acknowledged before the law that the child is yours).

Thanks for the info guys.

I guess it's the same as most things in Thailand... anything is possible, for the right price.

I will do some more research but right now I have a b-multiple entry for one year....

Does anyone know how many years I can renew that? I am on the second year now.

After that who knows, maybe I have to get on a thai language course and get a ED visa.

I don't know about the non-B visa but you should be able to get the non-O visa for the purpose of visiting family (your Thai child) year after year after year. Unless your visits to Thailand are for business purposes it would be more appropriate for you to apply for the non-O visa.

Is your name on your name on your childs birth certificated?

You can get a multiple entry non-o visa with the birth certificate to visit your child.

The legitaqmization is only required by some immigration offfice for a 1 year extension. No Thai consulate will ask for it to get a visa.

legitaqmization does not cost a lot of money and can be done at the Amphoe (district office). If you applied for the birth certificate when the child was born this is not needed.

My name is on the birth certificate and the baby has my surname.

What is the process for 'legitimization'? Is having my surname, passport number, and signiture on the birth certificate and supporting documents not enough?

For getting a visa it is normaly enough, for an extension of stay it is not.

Being named on the birthcertificate is not enough to legitimise the child if you are not married. Legitimization is done by registering the birth of the child yourself at the amphur. if you id that yourself you have legitimised the child, if soembody alse did it, like the hospital or the mother, you have not legitimised the child.
