Myself never done a Boarder run so have no idea....

Friends coming to stay for 6 weeks, so will need to do a boarder run before the 30 day Visa on arrival ends..

I remember reading a year or so back that people on Boarder runs must show 20,000 baht is cash? been many changes so wonder if this is still needed Please, cannot find any up to date info on this

The cash is not usually asked to be shown.

Why are they coming without a Visa if staying for 6 weeks? Tourist Visas are free at the moment.

If they are flying to Thailand they may not be allowed on the flight without a Visa.

Also they will only get 15 days entry at a border crossing, Which will only be an additional 14 days stay. So that might not be enough to avoid an overstay.

It is the airlines job to check that passengers have the correct Visas for their destination. If the passengers are refused entry it is the airlines responsibility to take them back. They can also be fined.

Cannot understand why they did not get Visas, especially as they are free of charge.

As UJ said a border run will only get them another 15 days.

As they arrive here on Sunday, and there return flight is in the early hours of a Saturday... well there departure time is 00:45, so they will have gone past the check point on the Friday night

I have done many border runs and have never been asked to show cash. People in front of me have been asked though so they do check some people.

They may be ok. Even if they go over by one day there won't be any fine. Just a little stamp saying they overstayed less than 24 hours.

But advise them that for their next trip they should get a tourist visa, Even if it costs 1000 baht for the tourist visa and the small amount of time it takes to do a mail in application. It is still cheaper and easier than making a border run.

As I am sure they will arrive early at the airport, if they are refused, can the go to say Thai Airways and buy a Ticket to say KL for a weekend in the middle of there stay? then get back and board the Plane ?

They could probably do that.

Or they could buy a cheap one way or round trip to KL on Air Asia online before they go to the airport. Round trips are only a little more than 2000 baht. They could use that for their border run and get a 30 day entry when they return. If they dd that they could make a short trip into town that day and see a little bit of the city.
