Best Place For Long Term Car Rental On Samui

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

We're looking to rent a car for 6 months and wondered if anyone could recommend a good company to contact?

We've been to Thai Rent A Car, Budget, Avis and Master Rentals

We need something 4 wheel drive that can cope with going up very steep hills and I'd prefer not to have a jeep as they don't seem to do much for your spine!! (of course we may not have too much of a choice in the end)

Any advice would be much appreciated.

there is a place in lamai. on the ring road after the temple on the corner about 400 meters on the right hand side opposite a 7/11 which it at a junction where the cars come out of lamui beach road.

it has all Mitubishi tritions. i saw a price saying 1200 per day. speacial price which is alot cheaper the avis or budget. you get alot of car for your money. they have dvd players inside also but you will need a word with the boss if u want the remote control he worries people will watch tv and drive and crash. though he does give it to some people.

there is a car rental opposite Bangkok Hospital, i think they charge 17 K a month for a hi lux......

be careful with rent somewhere a car about "Full Insurance".

The Thais dont mean the same as the international companies like: National,Avis,Budget,Hertz

Chayaphum,

I don't think any of these companies, would be suitable fot their long term rentals, simply too expensive, maybe one of the smaller ones or a private individual.

Talk about insurance, I found Master Car Rental the best, full insurance & no excess at all & about 800 +Bht cheaper then the majors, Eg: Fortuna for 1,900 to 2,000.

not sure if it is possible but in thiory could you take the car down the company and inssure it yourself. i mean for long term. that would hiss of these thai companies.

I don't think you can rent a car & insure it yourself , in your name. You need the book in your name.

I also think the prob with renting from a private person, even if they are insured, it would probably be for private use.I don't know what reaction the insurance will have once they know it was used as a rental,as the premiums would vastly differ.

Important: dont forget that...

the "local" car rental companies do not permit the vehicle to leave the island.

(except for the international car rental companies like Budget, National, Hertz, Avis)

They fear that the vehicles were stolen and sold :)

6 months...

Buy one, take care of it & sell it back for the same price!

no, no, bad idea, cannot

I tried to sell one of my cars since 2 years for a very good price - no one is interested. Why?? Because here you need only a little amount of money and you can finance a new one.

Thanks for all your replies. We decided against buying and reselling as we'd heard it's quite difficult to sell cars on the island.

And we managed to find a really good deal eventually - ok we spent the best part of a week driving around trying to find a decent car but we got there in the end!

when u rent with avis and budget u get the option to pay an extra about 500 baht per day for number 1 inssurence.

i rented on in bangkok and hit someone's bumper. the inssurence took care of everything. welll worth the 500 baht considering i hit a merc

for english people the car are build with the steering wheels the same way as the uk. so you can send one back on a container for 2000 pounds. the new mitubushi tritons have heaters aswell.

not sure how hard it is to register it in england and weather there are speciall E.U things that have to be fitted. if someone has done this already can u let me know. i might send my one back
