Hi everyone,

First of all my apologies for posting the umptiest overstay question, but I guess you can't be too certain on these issues.

Story is pretty simple - I'm here on a transit visa, valid until 27th, have a flight to Delhi on the 29th and was planning on just paying the 1000 Baht at the airport. Now the trip to Delhi has to be postponed by a week, meaning I'd have to overstay by 9 days.

My question is: does it make a difference whether I overstay 2 or 9 days or does the fee just go up accordingly and that's it? Could I get any more trouble than that?

If you were stopped prior to getting to the airport you could spend some time in jail. Not likely but always a possibility. You will be charged 500 baht for each day of overstay. If you are in Bangkok and allowed visa exempt entry there are border runs every day for 2,000 baht that would obtain a 15 day stay. But suspect if you are using a transit visa you may not qualify for visa exempt entry.

Thanks for your answer. I'm a little confused about transit visa and visa exempt entry, when I got to the airport I just went through the immigration with my [german] passport and got a stamp, no application or anything. I thought that was a transit visa?

My question is: With the visa that I have now (30 days visa on arrival), can I get an extension for 10 days at the Thai immigration?

You have a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp. Immigration will issue a 7 day extension if you can show a flight ticket leaving within 7 days. Cost 1,900 Baht.

You may well have to do a border run and get another 15 days stay.

You are on a 30 day visa exempt entry not a transit visa or VOA.

The longest extension you can get is 7 days and costs 1900 baht.

Your best option is to make a border run and get a 15 day entry.
