Police Report

Featured Replies

:) We had occasion to obtain a Thai Police clearence report for our Australian 4 year visa (due to having lived in Thailand over 12 months) If anyone needs to obtain a report this is how to do it - for what it's worth.

The only place you can obtain a report is to pay a personal visit to the Thai FBI Police Headquarters close to Siam Square.

You need to be armed with the original and a signed copy of your passport, a proof of residency certificate (obtainable from the local immigration office) and your Tambien Bhan if you have one.

On arrival you will be given a simple form to complete (there are English speaking officers on hand to assist with this)

You then walk a few metres to be fingerprinted

Then of to a room to have your photo taken (they do not accept your own copies)

Finally one goes to another desk to be handed a collection certificate. If you wish to have it posted there is another desk.

The whole process took about 35 - 40 miniutes.

The report is usually ready in about two weeks. I returned to BKK on the day indicated on my form and collected the certificates in about 5 miniutes! (you can send a representative to collect them)

The whole process is unbelievably slick, if only all Thai offices were as good as this!

We are needing a Police Clearance Report (not for an Aus visa, another country). We have however been given the option to obtain one in current country (Thailand) or country of origin (UK).

Is there really no way to do the procedure in Phuket?

I'm also wondering how long is the Clearance Report valid for?

I think that you'll find that it will be the requesting country that will dictate the period of validity. For example, the last time that I had to provide such a form, it was for a Work Permit in Angola. Their criteria was that the Police Certificate had to have been issued within 90 days prior to the Work Permit application being submitted. There was another twist that might apply to you, in that I was resident in Spain at the time, and obtained a Spanish Police Report. Initially that wasn't going to be accepted as I'm a UK citizen, however I provided official proof of my Spanish residency (ID Card), and the application was then approved.

If your circumstances are similar, it may well be that you'll have to provide proof of Thai Residency (such as a Residency Certificate or Retirement Visa etc).

Yes, very good points Pagallim. I've had confirmation that they'll accept a document from Thailand and I do have a valid Thai visa, but the period of validity for the letter - I really need to check that first - thanks.
