Does any one know  if you already hold a retirement visa /married to a Thai/ if the proposed new financial requirements will only apply to " NEW " visa applications and " NOT " to people with existing visa's ( as in my case I had to only show 200,000 Baht last time ) ...?  Thanks ....

There is talk that the 200,000 may go to 400,000 for both new applications and renewals.

Dr Pat Pong may be right as I have heard rumours also.

However as of a few months ago, I received my one year extension at the BKK Immigration. I asked "are you sure??" about 5 times the same question to the officer that just handed my passport back stamped. She insisted that only new applicants would be required the higher bank balance requirement. Renewals will have the same requirements as the previous extension you received. She handed me a document that is called:

TO INSPECTOR OF SECT. 3 SUB DIV 2, IMMIGRATION DIV. 1

This is a list of my extension renewal requirements, the following are checked off:

1. Marriage Certificate

2. House Registration

3. Birth Certificate

4. ID Card or Official Card

6. In case money in transferred from abroad

7. Bank Statement together with a Certificate letter.

Here she hand wrote 200,000 as the requirement.

11. Your wife must accompany you to the immigration office to certify of all the documents. Both of you will be able to confirm that you are still husband and wife.

Maybe if someone reading this board that is concerned and under 400,000 baht on their bank balance, and going for a renewal not a new visa extension could ask for this document before filling out the application/paying fees to see THEIR requirements.

Nam Kao, according to the Pattaya Immigration web site ( www.pattaya-immigration.com ) it seem's as if the current financial requirements for a retirement / support ( married to a Thai ) visa are .. 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank " OR " a monthly income amounting to 400,000 Baht a year .  I am still trying to confirm if this financial requirement is for " NEW " visa applications only...? , and any one with with an existing retirement/support visa will only have to show the past amount of 200,000 bhat ..?
