Hi....I am from Oregon, USA. My girlfriend lives in BKK......I visited her from 11/08 - 2/09. I had a condo for 6 months.....Now....she found us a 3 bed 2 bath home to stay in with her sons. I have been sending her some money for the house that i wanted her to get.

From Oregon....where and what visa should I look at to maximize my length of stay in Thailand without a lot of headache? After about 1 1/2 years...........i want to bring her and her sons back to the USA.........

We would like to get married too.....would that help if we did it while i was in Thailand? Bank accounts? Proof of support or sending her money for the home?

Also......it always says you have to have proof of a flight and return.............what if i don't know when i will return?

Thanks folks!!! I am new to long travel!

Unless you are over 50 your visa choices are limited. You could get a 3 entry tourist visa from the consulate in Portland that would give you almost 9 months without getting another visa.

If you did get get married you could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage. For that you need to prove an income of 40,000 baht per month or have 400,000 baht in a Thai bank for 2 months.

Or you could get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage.

If you get married here then you can apply for permanent residence visa for her trip to the states. To make that happen quicker you would need to be here for at least 6 months on a long stay visa in order to do the application process here. Otherwise you have to it in the States and that takes at least twice as long.

my age is 43...........she is 40. I have a house rental in the states. And before i go....i will get some company money from my former employer .....( about 500,000 or 600,000 b ) i can use in an account there if i need to.

Can i apply in Portland for a Visa? Or do i need to go to Seattle?

ok, for your visa now tell the Thai embassy/consulate in your area that you are going

to Thailand for 6 months or longer because you are looking for land investment

I dont know any Thai consulate in Europe or USA which would not be given directly

a one years business visa NON EMIGRANT B.

my tips in my previous email are related to the question of how easy you can get

the next visa when you are in Thailand already. your wifes biz must be running for

minimum 6 months before the immigration will accept her tax receipts.

but if you get a 12 months visa in USA already you can even longer this for another

3 months with an ordinary border run which gives you already a total stay permission

of 15 months already.

if it is serious with this lady I will not recommend you to go to the Phillipines instead :-)

if you are seriously interested to marry her and to bring her and her kids in about 1,5 years time home to the US you should marry her in BKK Bang-Rak. this

department handles out all marriage papers in English if you apply for it for no further costs, or peanuts. cant remember.

you need to bring some papers from home. please check web page of US embassy in Bangkok.

after marriage you go to the US embassy and register your marriage. you must drop one original set of marriage documents and can pick it up some

days later full with stamps.

alredy now your future wife can apply for a LOCAL BUSINESS LICENSE, e.g. for selling beer or cigarettes from at home or bike rental or whatever - be creative.

No Co.Ltd., Pts.Ltd or other expesive business setup which mostly makes some lawyers rich but is oversized for receiving a proper long term visa in your case.

By receiving this cheap local business license your wife can show evidence of paying tax. you as her husband will be allowed then to apply for a

marriage visa, as you and/or your wife has a business paying tax.

No amphoe or khet gives you documents related to marriage in English they will be in Thai.

The US embassy does not register marriages. The only document he would need is proof of divorce if he has been married before if chooses to get married.

A wife does not have to have a business for a person to get an extension of stay based upon marriage.

His is the only income or deposit in the bank that can be used.

And you can not own land in Thailand. A wifes business earning do not have anything to do with visa issue or extension of stay. :)
