Hi, anyone interested in having a thread talking only Toyota Vigo's ? I have one in UK, I come to LOS EVERY JAN /FEB, also I have various trucks ,cars, bikes, and am allways willing to learn/ give advice, regards

I have a four speed auto vigo Thai 4 speed, and have noticed when taking my foot off the throttle the gearbox will not slow the truck down, no downshifts ! so a lot of use of brakes is needed.

Is this normal ? as I have other autos that are heavier and the auto box will down shift as I slow down. I realise any auto will need a lot of braking for steep decents, but I am new to Toyota autos.

One other question........ I get steering wheel shudder at about 62 to 65 mph, I have fitted Toyota alloys with BF goodrich Mud terrain tyres, chunky tread, I have had the wheels balanced, no joy, any ideas ?

I know this can be a common fault in 4x4s as I have had similar probems with nissan patrol, and Landcruiser.

Lastly anyone bringing a new Vigo in to Uk and wants to sell a set of standard wheels and tyres, please pm me, as on long trips the bf goodrich give a lot of road noise.

many thank's in advance for any usefull replys. I ask on here because Toyota garages are not at all helpfull to people that have imports !

If you shift the selector to a lower gear the rev limiter gives you engine braking for that gear.I always change down to 3 when I go over the crest of the hill and this have engine braking through the bends on the way down;

Harry, is that safe to do that at speed, or even go to second, ? I have had tiptronic auto boxes and its fine to do that, but unsure on Vigo ! as said the handbook/ manual is in Thai. And I love the truck, it has been chipped to 220 bhp, and very easy to service.

You can shift manual as much as you want as long as you dont over rev. Works just like a tiptronic. ECT, electronic controlled transmission

If front wheel balance is a problem, this is normally at 50-55 mph and rear wheels at 75 mph (vibration in seat). The BF mud terrain are very heavy tyres and often not 100% round, which could be the reason. Try swapping front with rear tyres, one at a time. Be aware of the speed limit for these tyres, could be as low as 100 mph.

Good luck with thai truck in UK :D The ones Toyota sell in UK are made in South Africa :)

Thank's well you learn something new every day, I never knew that the Uk ones were made in S/ Africa, interested to know why Thai built have 4 speed, and eu/ uk have 5 speed ?

perhaps 5 speed for more motorway cruising ? and the other for more rural roads ? I got the truck with the bf tyres on, would not have been my choice !

For the thai market they build them as inexpensive as possible. 4 speed auto, no heater/ defroster. Would be hard to sell in uk/eu.

The bf tyres are great offroad.

You might just be the man to help. I am leasing a Toyota Vigo from Budget for the next 12 months, but am only an occasional passenger in it - the Thai GM drives it. Today, for the first time, I noticed on the side of the car that it boasts VSC in addition to Cruise Control, which I do grasp. There is also a VSC indicator when you start the car and in ours it is off. What is VSC please? I did a web search and got Vehicle Stability Control, but it did not say when and how it is to be used. The car is driven a lot on mountainous roads - in fact, the Thai GM has already run two of them off these mountain roads. If it happens again, he can go back to a motorbike. Should VSC be on for mountainous, and often slippery, roads? The manual is in Thai, of course, so can't find out that way.

Apologise, I can't help, I only had my Vigo 2.5 weeks, mine is auto, no cruise, and no VSC ? hopefully someone else will come up with the answer !

Er ....... get a manual in English ? They do exist.

Tks, but the last time I needed a manual (not for a car) in English, I was told to download it from the website - something like 100 pages. I'm curious, but not that curious if I get the same response. The car goes in for its first service soon, so I'll have the driver ask the service people. With a bit of luck, they'll even know. Hopefully, not having the VSC on is not life threatening. The way this newly licensed Thai driver drives is likely to make little difference anyway. Which is why I'm still renting, rather than buying. I hope to buy around May of next year, when the current rental agreement expires, and will make sure there are manuals in both Thai and English.

Another Vigo question, for the enlightened ? I have on mine a towbar fitted, it is unused, but has no plug for the electrics, the Toyota agent up the road is less than helpfull and trying to baffle me with bullshit ! Now one would imagine the only difference to uk spec and asian is we have foglights, now is there a wiring kit for the Vigo ? rumour has it there is a plug in connector behind one of the lights for this purpose ? before I pull these out any suggestions ? regards
