KANCHANABURI : A suspected pangolin smuggler thought to have links with a major wildlife trafficking gang has been arrested in Muang district as he was transporting 10 live pangolins to his home.

There is big money to be made trafficking in pangolins, such as this one seized last year in Chumphon province. FILE PHOTO

Police stopped a car driven by Payom Chueyphoo, 40, on Saeng Chuto Road on Sunday night. A search found the pangolins - also known as scaly anteaters - weighing a combined 34.5kg, packed in plastic bags in the boot of the car.

Mr Payom said he bought the wild animals from Ban Kao village in Muang district for 500 baht each.
