Just travel up Nanai road if you want a really good deal. You can rent a guesthouse room for likely under 700 baht and still get king bed, sat tv, air cond and balcony. Also right near JungleCeylon there is a street with a bunch of guesthouses. Or you can stay in a hotel by the beach for double the amount and may like it less. I'd do the guesthouse and rent a motorbike. I may be doing the same in October. You can pm me if you need a listing of guesthouses. I have it somewhere on my comp as I was trying to find good internet.

Not actually on the beach road, but i like Aloha Villa near the eastern end of Bangla. Hotels2thailand often have good prices. Stayed 3 times now.

Why go to Nanai. You find several guesthouses in the street up to Patong Tower. I think prices are about 800 bath, and you are almost at the beach.
