Please feel free to highlight where i stated that all Filipino's are con artists and guilty by association...

Seems that a few here have a persecution complex. Sadly, the race card has already been played as well. :)

Don't think anyone is saying that this is all Filipino's, it was merely mentioned that there are known Filipino gang's operating in Bangkok, as stated by the police to the OP - no difference really then me saying there are known hoards of British sex tourists in Pattaya. In the end these are all street crimes, and people should be aware of them.

You didn't and you were quite clear, more than once, in an attempt to explain why some of the 'sensitive' posters are clearly off base. I particularly appreciated your suggestion that if they feel so upset that perhaps they should go out and clean up the mess.

If one came across certain portions of this thread without knowing that it is regarding a report of criminal activity on a thread located on an expat forum, one could mistake it for a comedy routine.

I have deleted several posts as being totaly off topic, and should perhaps deleted a lot more.

The OP has not stated that all Filipinos's are criminals and this thread is not about bashing a certain nationality. tThe only mentioning about Filipino's is that there seem to be a gang of 5 persosn operating in the area.

Now I suggest we go back to the topic of bag snatching, without discussing the nationality.

Getting almost back to the subject - beware of bag slashers on the BTS. My friend was holding her bag in front of her on the BTS and the bottom was slashed without her being aware. They got an old mobile phone but nothing else. This was when the BTS very busy in the morning.

I wish I'd left the passed-on message about the Filipino gang out of it now.

If anyone wants proof that a gang or gangs using distraction techniques to rob around the Sukhumvit area are Filipino, please contact Thonglor police station. I have no proof who they are, only that over the last 12 months on this forum several instances of Westerners being robbed in this manner have claimed that they were Filipinos, and that the police also came up with this without being prompted. I can only assume they've caught some before. To date I haven't heard reports of any other nationalities using this technique (plenty of other techniques around though).

Just keep a look out for motorbikes coming up behind you late evening if walking holding a bag. A busy street obviously does not equal safety by eyewitnesses. Some are operating alone, some with a fellow rider, but they remove or cover their licence plates.

I think the OP was just trying to warn people here at TV and just telling the information given by the police. For the Filipino posters here, would your reaction be different if it was American or Australian gang? Maybe not...

a lot of poster here reacts based on what they feel and just siding to what they think is right to them because they love their country. Why not weighed things and be objective?

I've seen a lot of post here about different nationalities involving crime and stuff (hearsay or not) but did their fellow countrymen reacted the same way? I think no, so why react and take side as if we are being racist here?

I'm a Filipino but when I read post like this it makes me feel sad, as we should known better. If someone says bad things about your country and you think you're not then why get affected when it's not true.

Sounds a good Flipper Thumping is on the menu. :)

Wow, that's incredibly racist and offensive, in my opinion. I have a lot of Filipino friends. But being the cool and easy going guys they are, they'd probably just laugh at that comment. By the way, where do you live, I'll bring my friends by and we can "thump" you. :D

As to the robberies, these kind of snatchings have been common place in small sois off Sukhumwit ever since I moved to Bangkok in 2003. I lived on a soi away from the tourists stuff and hubub, though, definitely quiet at night but there were stories of motorbike robbers trying to snatch purses, etc. every week. One was even at gunpoint and one lady ended up in a coma in the hospital after she held on to her purse as a motorbike robber was trying to snatch it while moving at high speed. So this new news story doesn't surprise me or shock me in the least.

Every country on earth has criminals including the Philipines. There is no reason to get offended.

Most of us love to visit your country and think that it is beautiful and that the people are very pleasant.

Warning people to be careful of con artists with Filipino accents pretending to be Thai, is no refection on honest citizens at all.

Exactly true. One feels sad when they hear of their fellow countrymen committing crimes (and it happens to all of us). But it is not a reflection upon one personally.

No worries mate, I'd make short order of them, but only if they are the bag snatchers. :D

I'd have to assume a gent such as yourself does not hang out with the Flipper bag snatchers, so needless to say the only thing being decimated would be a heap of San Miguels. :)

Yes I totally agree. Also I think most of the people committing crimes are not actually thinking of their country but themselves.

With regards to the topic, if police knows these things happen a lot of times and exactly what time and soi, why not catch them so we will know that if they truly are Filipinos?
