Free Food At Phuket Public Schools

Featured Replies

I live in Tambon Srisoonton, Thalang. My step-granddaughter attends public school here. My wife tells me that some of the students in the lower grades are given tickets for free food at the school canteen and some are not. She does not know the reason why some do and some do not. Has anybody on the Phuket Forum information on this, who pays for the free tickets and on what basis children are selected. I am not complaining, as my step-granddaughter has a free ticket, just wondering why some other kids do not get a ticket.

Never heard of that in a Thai govt school and not in Phuket. All kids eat free, as do the teachers. Could be an isolated issue? I have taught at 7 different govt schools and this is the first I heard of this.

I have now talked to another family with a kid in another public school in Phuket town. The situation there is the same. Not all kids get free food. It seems each class has only so many free tickets available and the teacher distributes them according to apparent need. My step-granddaughter is somewhat thin, she gets a free ticket, the other kid is fat, ergo has to pay for his own food. They all eat the same food at the canteen, and even if you have to pay it is only 10 baht.
