Hi,

To sign mutual consent divorce papers do you have to go back to the same amphur office where the marriage was registered or can it be done at any office?

Thanks

Thanks for the info! DAnother question if I may! Do you know if the divorce agreement letter has to be done through a lawyer and is one necassary?

If you’re not familiar with what could be written in the agreement or there are financial/child custody arrangements I’d suggest taking a lawyer with you. You can also use him as one of your witnesses. If it's plain and simple with no money/child matters take someone you trust along that can act as interpreter and witness.

I posted a fairly recent account of an umphur divorce post #14 in this thread that may help you understand the process.http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Divorce-Thailand-t280556.html

Thanks, the post is very informative. After eight years together we are both very happy to split up! We have agreed in principle to joint custody of our 2 kids so a lwayer is the best option. It is interesting about the non imm O visa situation. I will come back into Thailand as a tourist this time!
