I read in todays Pattaya Mail a British subject had his throat cut, on the way to the airport, by a taxi driver. The taxi driver had 'gambling debts of 90,000 baht'. It seems a bit much really to die for this amount.

Does anyone have any alternative safe suggestions on how to get to the airport from Pattaya?

I had a bad experience once with a taxi driver in Manila, by sheer good luck a policeman was nearby and stopped the experience. It turned out the Manila taxi driver was armed with a revolver.

Take care all.

I regularly use one particular service from Bangkok to Pattaya and return. Never had a problem and they are always on time. Phone number 01 903 4001. They speak reasonable English. Cost from Pattaya 800bt or in a nicer car(they call it a limo but its a cefiro or similar) 1200bt

Use the minibus services from a travel agent....cost is a lot cheaper and there are usually more of you then the driver....

Go to a bus station and catch a bus....

Use a taxi service that is recommended by any of the bar owners..

1000,s of people hire these taxi services probably per day......there is more likelihood of you being killed crossing the road then being killed by a desperate Taxi driver.

Plenty of options.

Shared minibus from any of the travel companies. Bt 200

Bus from Pattaya north road straight to A'port Bt 90 , every couple of hours.

Private taxi from one of the travel companies e.g. KFC Taxis Bt 1,000 to Bt1,500

( they know your name and who is driving you ) :o

Has anyone found a way to get one of these mini buses back from the airport?they must hang around somewhere

Thai Airways used to run a minibus 3 times a day for about 400 baht. Don't know if that's still true. Afer travelling for 14 hours I just want to get there so use a taxi.

you can take the thai 'limo' for b400??? it will drop you off on 3rd road.

better -take a taxi to morchit (b100) and bus to pty (b90)

or if youre cheap charlie a red bus to morchit.

taxi from stand will be b1200 these days w/ bush gASS prices and all.

dont go upstairs and wrangle for cheaper fares - those guys have no intention of going to pty and may have to change cars or do something which holds your trip up incl -you getting ripped off.

dont worry dude, it aint the rp, no one will leave you naked on the flyover.

I tried the mini bus twice and bad experience, I took the 1:00 and there was one at 4:00, I was the only one on the 1:00 so they farted around for the 4:00 people, I gave up at 3:00 and said I wanted a taxi and they tried to send me in a van. I told them I wanted a sedan and they just gave me my money back and I finally paid 900 for a taxi back to Bangkok :o
