Any Where On Island Sell The New Mac Os X?

Featured Replies

Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) was released worldwide a few days ago.

I've had a look at the official Apple store site and they still going the way of physial box shipment (grrr...) rather than instant download, I guess to avoid support issues which is fair enough. What the quickest way to get it on Samui? Presumably no anywhere on the island itself sells it direct and at $29 for the upgrade from 10.5 (Leopard) I rather get a legitmate spyware free version if at all possible.

Go with the legit if you preferred, if you can't wait, just do a DL for it, and then do a hash check. The problem is finding a clean one on the net with the correct hash :)

order online from apple web site its only 1200 baht :) (if you have leopard) im still waiting my copy to arrive, according to the apple site its arrived in BKK and has had its shipping arranged (but not announced) to Samui :D probs next few days.

btw i ordered this on the 24th :/ launched on the 28th and still not here :/

If you read this post from a few days ago, "New Computer Shop Opening?, Anyone know anything about it?"

You'll see they are selling Mac's & PC's ... you might want to see if they have in stock... they had many Mac items in stock... Pop in and ask!

It's between Tesco & the Wine store.... same side of road... I think used to be a vet clinic?

Yeah try the new shop beside tesco, it is called "banana", at least that is what it says on the bag i got from them.

They opened justa few days ago but they seemed to have the "Mac-area up and running".

Good luck and take care!

/comehome :)

My copy came yesterday :) only annoying thing atm is forcing 64 bit kernel boot up (defaults @ 32). This is fixable by adding some text to some boot code. Other than that everything works fine

Negative on the new IT shop (Bannana IT).

Searched the MAC area and nowt, asked if they had "Snow Leopard" - they were like what is it (the guy behind the counter and two of the sales staff), reclarified "OS X 10.6", still blank expressions, then "Mac OS X 10.6" - "No have!".

It good to have somewhere that sells Apple hardware and the near full range of little accessories but I hope people know what their doing when they buy a Mac as this place certainly won't be offering much in support or guidance. Will ordered by the Mac store online and wait a few days. Thanks

I was like a kid with his nose at the sweetshop window so I got torrent DL and installed it as an evaluation until the distro's became available.

I was favourably impressed though, with a couple of minor caveats.

Does anyone know if I can install the release version over the top or do I need to do a clean install and import?

You probably best doing a clean install, I dont think the official hash codes of the leaked betas etc.. have been released so there is no way of knowing the integrity of the download. As a rule of thumb, I never compromise on the base OS and antivirus, and touch wood so far so good. You might be able to use Time Machine to backup all settings, files, apps to a portable USB/Firewire harddrive, then reinstall a verified non eval/beta version of the OS, then restore from Time machine, I might be talking complete crap though as Im not sure how much of the OS time machine backups up beyond your files/settings.

Cheers Matt, seems like sensible advice. I have the TM available so no wuckers.

Yes, thanks for the advice here.... about clean install ...

I just ordered Snow Leopard upgrade, from BananaIT, they will bring in from BKK, he said three days.... That's OK... 1145 baht if I remember correctly.

Mac guy is " installed now" ! :D his English is very good.... He seemed to understand questions with sensible answers!

I asked if he could make home visits to help with Networking, he said "when I have holiday" which in Thai terms usually means when he gets a day off... he said next month, sometime! :)

Well that's ok too, a while longer won't make a lot of difference to me...
