I have a one year Non-Imm B visa based on working for my employer. On 24 September, if all goes well, I'll go to Immigration to renew the visa and to Labor to extend the WP.

As it happens, my 90 day address reporting is due on 26 September. Does anyone know whether the visa extension resets the clock on the 90 days? (Actually, I'm going out of the country a few days afterwards anyway - yes I know I need to make sure to get the re-entry permit while I'm at Immigration! :) )

I've been here six years but somehow this situation never came up before.

Thanks!

Only the first time you ask for an extension of stay id considered the same as 90 day reporting. After that you will have to do your report every 90 days, even if it is in the same period as asking for an extension. It dos not reset the clock, leaving the country does.

It sounds like you have an extension of stay based upon employment not a visa.

The new extension will not reset the 90 day report. But under the rules that allow you to report 7 days early (or late) you could make it at the same time that you do the extension.

When you return from your trip your 90 days will start again.

As said you do not have a Visa. That died years ago. Re Applying for an extension does not re set your 90 day report date. It is totally separate.

Thanks to all for your comments. I guess that in addition to doing the extension and the re-entry permit, I'll also have to stand in line for the 90 day report...

Sigh.

P.S. I'm curious as to why you say "You do not have a Visa" My understanding was that this yearly trip (this is the fifth time) was extending the originally granted visa (which was as you surmise for purposes of employment). Is it just that I have the terminology wrong? I do know that when we go for the 90 day report, the "Visa Number" field is supposed to be filled in by the re-entry permit number, which always struck me as a bit strange.

I'd appreciate an explanation of your comments - without any snide rolling of the eyes regarding my apparent ignorance, please :)

You do not extend a visa you extend the permit to stay that a visa allowed you to have. Once you are in the country you are on a permit to stay not a visa. Just a terminology error but it is one that often causes confusion when we are trying to answer questions.

Edit: I think you mean the TM6 arrival card not the 90 day report because there is no visa number space on it.

Thank you, UbonJoe,

Yes, you're right. I'm thinking of the TM6.
