The one year licence is the equivalent to a Provisional licence in other countries. You can lose it for certain offences and to get an international licence or use it in other ASEAN countries you must hold it for one year and then get a 5 year licence.

Why don't you write that you need an International one for your country, cause they took yours. But you can try it. We all know that this country is a little different with others. I forgot the address, please just try it in Bangkok, smile and pay. It's worth a try. With your one year license...and CONGRATULATIONS that you passed such a difficult test.

I asked a few years back (at my local centre TalingChan) and was told that you needed a 5 year. When I had my 5 year they told me to go to Chatachak to get the International.

Yes indeed, you do require a 5yr license. The other docs needed:-

Passport.

Letter of residency from Immigration OR yellow Tabien Ban OR work permit.

Two passport size, not Thai driving license size, photos. N.B. Have these taken at the offices as those from photo shops may not be accepted. They are usually too glossy and the ink stamp will not take on them.
