Traffic Foreign Cyclist's Reckless Manoeuvre Sparks Outrage in Phuket
Picture via Facebook/Pusana Ai Senrit Outrage erupted among Thai netizens upon witnessing a foreign cyclist cutting dangerously in front of a pickup truck on a busy Phuket road. Driver Pusana Ai Senrit shared the dashcam footage of the incident in a Facebook group known for exposing reckless driving. The video captures the cyclist shifting from the left shoulder to the far-right lane, nearly colliding with Pusana’s vehicle on Bypass Road. Quick reflexes were the only thing preventing a serious accident. The online community were not shy to express their anger, with comments criticising the cyclist's actions as careless and foolish. Among the reactions were warnings and sarcastic remarks pointing to the foreign cyclist’s lack of regard for safety. Others raised concerns over larger vehicles being blamed if an accident occurred. Some suggested the cyclist should have walked his bike instead of attempting such a precarious move. The legality of the cyclist’s actions was called into question. Thai law requires cyclists to adhere to the shoulder or designated cycling lanes on main roads. Violating these rules can lead to fines, as highlighted by this incident, reported The Thaiger. There’s no word yet on whether legal action will follow. However, the situation remains a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic laws. Last year, in Chiang Mai, two foreign cyclists faced hefty fines for a similar breach. They issued public apologies and paid 10,000 baht each after unlawfully riding electric unicycles on the road. The pattern of incidents involving foreign cyclists flouting local traffic laws seems to be ruffling feathers. As discussions continue, this latest incident shines a spotlight on road safety responsibilities for cyclists and drivers alike. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-08-14 -

Politics Paetongtarn Faces 29 Aug Verdict Over Leaked Hun Sen Call
Picture courtesy of Thai PBS World The Constitutional Court will deliver its verdict on 29 August regarding the leaked phone conversation that involves suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodian leader Hun Sen. This high-profile case sees 36 senators calling for a ruling on what they deem gross ethical misconduct and dishonesty by Paetongtarn. Upon accepting the petition, the court suspended her from her duties as Prime Minister. Paetongtarn acknowledged that the recording was genuine during a press conference, describing it as a private negotiation to maintain peace and Thailand’s sovereignty. However, the recording, leaked from Hun Sen’s camp, has fuelled a political storm. In the contentious recording, Paetongtarn refers to a Thai Second Army Region commander as “the opposition” and expresses a willingness to comply with Hun Sen’s requests. Her accusers claim this demonstrates an alarming degree of inaction and a failure to fulfil her responsibilities as Prime Minister. They suggest her actions were influenced by personal relationships, allegedly accommodating Cambodia’s demands. The petitioners further argue that her remarks about the commander indicate a lack of integrity and a serious breach of ethical standards. This case has jeopardised her political career and heightened scrutiny of her relationship with Hun Sen, as reported by Thai PBS World. Remarkably, following the recording's release, Paetongtarn's father, Thaksin, declared his friendship with Hun Sen is over, even though they shared a longstanding relationship for over a decade. As Thailand awaits the court's decision, the implications of this ruling could be significant for Paetongtarn’s future in office. The ruling could significantly alter the political landscape, providing valuable insights into the application of ethical codes at the highest level. Regardless of the outcome, the nation will experience significant political repercussions. Adapted by ASEAN Now from THai PBS World 2025-08-14 -

Entertainment Thailand Eyes Global Stage with Tomorrowland Investment
Most of what is written above in the OP has nothing to do with Tomorrowland potentially to be hosted near Pattaya. There are no mass transit lines anywhere near Pattaya for several future years (if ever). I've been to 808 festival in Bangkok in 2018, 2023 and 2024. A very good and sold out event if you like the vibe of EDM. Very few foreigners, mostly younger Thais. I expect any Tomorrowland would be same. Still, a great proposition. I suspect, somebody in Thailand will profit massively if Tomorrowland comes to Thailand next year. Some footage from 808 in Bangkok in December 2024...
