I can only think that the premium was inflated so that the company recovered some of the repair bill, as you are saying that I should have been looking at around 14000 ish.

Anyway its all paid for already, I know that I can count on their service as its tried and tested.

Next year I,ll look for other quotes.

By the way KBBum,, do you have any experience of a company that will put up a substantially larger bail bond for the same premium I paid ?

I v seen insurances with 2 mill baht baibond from Tanachart insurance, Bangkok insurance, Honda insurance (japanese company in BKK) and Falcon. None of them are more than 2,5% for cars/trucks.

Just an update on my original post. It may be useful for someone else with similar insurance issues.

As I stated before, the reason I took out the insurance policy several years ago, was because it fitted genuine Toyota parts at a Toyota garage. I did not read the small print that says after a vehicle is several years old - then the Toyota guarantee is no longer valid. In other words I would have to fitnon-Toyota parts in a non-Toyota garage.

In this case I chose to pay an additional 1000 baht to Toyota to get the genuine Toyota windscreen.

Last year my pickup was insured for 400,000 baht and the premium with the 50 percent discount was 12000 Baht.

I asked the insurance assessor who came to look at the broken windscreen if I would lose myu no-claims bonus if I made a claim for a windscreen. No he said - I would not lose my no-claims bonus.

Not fully trusting anyone to do with insurance I then asked the question in several different ways:-

- so next time my no-claims discount will be 50 per cent as now? - YES was the reply

- I asked the same question in Thai - Chai Diogan was the reply

- AND the quote will not go up as I have made a claim - it will not go up was the reply.

- Are You Sure?? Yes

- Absolutely Sure - no change??? - Yes

I received my new quote yesterday.

- The premium has been reduced from 24000 baht to 23500

- The no-claims bonus has been reduced to 40 percent so I end up paying about 1500 baht more (including tax).

- The assured amount has reduced from 400,000 Baht to 350,000 Baht

OK its not a massive amount in real terms - just another really annoying 'slight' of hand to be noticed.

Before Thavisa suggests I get a quote from them - I already have done - they come in at 10000 baht (ish) with me as named driver and with breakdown service as well - with a slightly reduced medical content of 100,000 baht. I will start reading the small print of that policy next - perhaps for once it will actually say what is means :)

Just an update to finish this thread - which some poor **** looking for Car insurance may find useful.

- Went to QBE and they quoted 15000 Baht for Class s A Insurance - which included a 20 percent discount, with Medical Expenss of 100,00 baht and car damage cover of 350,000 baht.

- Went To Thaivisa Insurance and they quoted 11000 Baht for Class A Insurance - which included a 20 percent discount, with Medical Expenses of 200,000 baht and car damage cover of 400,000 baht. There was no breakdown assistance though which I thought was included.

- I went back to Viriyah Insurance to discuss why their claims inspector told me my no-claims bonus would not be affected if I claimed for a windscreen. I would just have repaired the small hole myself if the guy had not insisted it was better to get it fixed and it was free anyway. I went to their main office in Banglamung. I spoke to one of the 50 or so people working there - a main centre I guess. She could not be less interested in what I was saying. She just looked at me and kept saying that I had made a claim. I am very glad I did not need to make a major claim with this lot - who knows what would have happened!

Fair enough - So Thai Visa insurance it is then.
